Eurotunnel too Expensive!

Only used the Tunnel once in last 7 years due to our location and price difference from Hull ferry, we’re booked on the Hull-Rotterdam on the 4/9 and returning 16 days later, 7m mh and 2 berth cabin £398.

I don’t think Zeebrugge is freight only as that’s the route we normally do but was over a £100 more expensive, unless they’ve changed it recently.

School holidays perhaps? I’m out on 29-08 back on 19-09 £268 return.
I’d love to do Hull but it’s too expensive!
That's about what I would expect for those dates. We usually do about five weeks in Europe coming home mid July and then go away again late August or early September for the same amount of time.
Tunnel cost for those trips has in recent years been around £200 return.

It has been freight only for the last 4-5 months and is for the foreseeable future👍

Morning!.

So I planned for us to get away next week, Eurotunnel, which for us is a real drag to get to, as long as 8 hours. Price was £500.

Playing around with the Caravan & Motorhome site, I managed to get a good deal on Hull. Hull being around 90 mins from us. Zebrugge is freight only.

So, booked to Rotterdam, 8m Motorhome (to include bike rack). Premier Outside double bed, with 4 overseas campsite vouchers £645.

Suits me as it’s 90 mins to Hull and 60 mins to our first campsite in The Netherlands.

Now just trying to work out what forms we need for leaving and entering UK ?

Any tips appreciated
Harwich to the Hook is a great way to Holland and not over expensive. Sadly DFDS are not going to Esbjerg from Harwich any more, that was an excellent and fairly busy service. DFDS say they cancelled it due to EU fuel rules.

Hull to Rotterdam sounds a good deal - is that a single fare or return? I'm thinking probably the latter.

£500 through the tunnel is very expensive.
I am paying 142 on 2 nd of sept..BUSBY.

I booked through the Camping and caravan club to go out on the 25 August @ 11.00 and return on the 29 September @ 13.10. 7 mtr motorhome £132 each way.

Frequent traveller 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 It’s a no brainier.
Would need to share as I only do 4 crossings a year but usually return from Spain on Brittany,,BUSBY.

You can always find someone on here to take 4 or even six of the crossings before you buy the wallet. I'm on my third quota in three years. Even with the camper supplement it makes a crossing just £60 each way.

[THIS IS A VERY BUSY DAY! Please look at dates two days either side for more availability and lower fares. For more information, please click More info ]

This is what it says underneath the prices for both of the days you have chosen.....it is considerably cheaper 2 days before or after. (Eurotunnel)

Double check the booking I arrived at euro tunnel to be told the MCC had booked me on the day before. Had to stump up £450 to get a return ticket for that day don't trust the booking confirmation it has cost me dear. I will be dealing with the Club on Monday from Austria.

I am highly nebbed off with them for charging premium rates when running virtually empty - getting straight on to first place in the train before the one booked. Might give the Newhaven pensioners discount a go for a change as tending more towards that direction anyway for the past few visits.

Did you actually check the "2 days either side" prices? I did the other night & both days either side where even dearer than the day he was booking. They are just scamming.

Emptyish???

We came out Sunday lunch time (2pm) and I’ve never seen eurotunnel so busy.

Came back, in the car, two weeks ago........one car behind us, then nothing for a long way.(y)

Its a no Brainer for some. As I quote often on here, not a case of one size fits all.

Frequent traveller is no good for us.

I can't remember the last time we used the tunnel, when we do its rarely trouble free.

We mostly use Brittany Ferries over to Spain. North Sea from Hull or as a last resort if Hull is too expensive. Harwich.

As an example. For this trip to my First stop

Eurotunnel: 9 hours (min) driving and 450 miles. Inc Calais to Holland

Hull Ferry to Rotterdam: 3 hours driving 145 miles. Inc Rotterdam to 1st Stop

I share a frequent traveller ticket block the cost £450 for ten crossings plus £12 supplement for the van size.
that is cheaper than you single ticket. However at the moment with the vagaries of Boris and has mate declaring the countries blocked or open the changing them it is fraught with the danger of being forced into shutdown, hence nothing done yet. After November it will be almost impossible to go again after the new excuse for our Australian style heavy lockdown, that is expected .

Eurotunnel have been very good about extending Frequent Traveller ticket dates.
Issues on here tend to be from those who are being charged today for peak travel when in my case I was third in the queue for the crossing before mine. Jumping trains is not very common with vans at the best of times and getting on to the train towards the front of the queue even more so. Despite this I was charged an extra £60 as I went over for 5 days rather than 7 weeks.

Not condoning their costs but to survive at the moment with reduced traffic they have to charge more..BUSBY..

They have only managed a shareholders payout once & that was by doing another 10 for 1 share scam to the detriment of another load of poor saps.
They've never actually managed to pay off the build costs , that is why there has been no investment whatsoever in the rolling stock & infrastructure since it opened.

Just an little update on our costs.

£645 crossing including 4 overnight site vouchers.

used the overnight vouchers at a lake Lugano, Switzerland.

Cost of site would have been £265.

Deduct from £645 brings crossing down to £380 return from Hull - Rotterdam 8m motorhome, premier outside cabins.
