Having been diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia I have struggled to get a competitive travel insurance policy.

I got a quote for >£1300 for a 2 week trip to Cape Verde for myself and my better half.

Having hunted around I got a quote for an annual multi-trip policy for Europe, the best I could get was £800 with Staysure which required full disclosure of all medical details. There were some poor reviews so I decided to check elsewhere.

The Caravan & Motorhome Club came up trumps with their Red Pennant Plus Cover for Europe for an annual premium of £706 per annum for the 2 of us and our 10 year old motorhome.

There is specific cover for motorhome travel which Staysure did not have and the best bit was that the following were the only medical questions asked, taken from the policy document:-

Other than routine reviews is anyone awaiting any new treatment (including surgery), specialist referral, investigations or results of any tests?

Has anyone been discharged from any medical procedure
(admission or day case) within the last 3 months?

Other than routine checks, has anyone received any treatment (including medication) for any cancerous condition within the last 6 months except tamoxifen or similar (hormone treatment) in breast and prostate cancer?

Has anyone had any changes to their medication in the last 2 weeks? (this includes ceasing, commencing or changing dose)

If anyone is taking warfarin currently, are their INR levels (blood tests) being reviewed more often than every 4 weeks?

Currently, has anyone been prescribed any morphine, MST or fentanyl patches to be used at home?

Other than routine checks is anyone under referral or been
admitted to hospital in the last 12 months for any psychiatric
condition?

If the answer is “No” to ALL the questions shown above then full cover is available for your pre-existing medical condition(s) and there is no need to advise us of your pre-existing medical condition(s), provided you are healthy and fit to undertake your planned trip and you are not travelling against medical advice or with the intention of obtaining medical treatment or consultation abroad.

If the answer is ‘Yes’ to any of the questions above then you
must notify the Club’s administration department.

On the basis that we plan 3 trips abroad with the motorhome and one for a package holiday by plane in the next 12 months I went for this policy as being comprehensive and good value.

Interesting. Can I ask - how old are you both?
I am 72 shortly and my wife is 75

This policy should work for those aged up to 79.

I chose the up to 31 days per trip option.
