EU Pet Passports

We're taking our Westie into France on 2 January, then on into Spain and Portugal. At the end of January we're going to Morocco. Sometime before 29th March we'll be returning to Spain then heading home, to arrive early April.

We've got all the paperwork the EU require for whilst we are there and his Pet Passport, which is only needed to get him back into the UK. The very worst that can happen is that we will need to take him to a vet for a health check - which he gets anyway when we visit a vet for the worming check, it's also entered into the Pet Passport. He's not going to get stopped at Calais because that's a UK check, got sod all to do with Europe!
At the moment the “health check” is not required for entry to the uK. That is why there were less spaces in the Pet Passport for health. We filled ours spaces fairly quickly and printed extra sheets ourselves before being told that it was not required.

Only requirement is the “worming”. Anything else is superfluous.

Presumably the UK will be issuing its own non-EU pet passports, but they will be blue. Oh, wait...

We've been travelling through Europe for around 11 years and the last 3 with Pepper and she's loved it.
Last year I was partner on the Eurotunnel and was superb and we did 6 weeks and 2 weeks later.
However, although offered to be partner again, I seriously thought about the possibility of problems. I decided to decline the offer until things became clearer.
It has now and I'm more than happy NOT to go to Europe especially seeing the current situation. I'll tour just in England, Scotland and Wales.
Incidentally, there were other factors including the hike in fuel prices in France etc. The only advantage in going would be to get my cheaper plonk. I can do without that (Swmbo says) and trying to read cooking instructions. If I don't travel through Europe again, then so be it but I'd rather keep my money in this country and Pepper secure.
Bully us? Yeah I reckon but I can live without the hassle given by those cretins in Brussels.

We took the dog across on the tunnel in September, we handed pet passport in with ours at the customs on uk side on the way out and was told it wasn't required for leaving just on the return to uk. So are the EU's going to start checking something they had no interest in prior to Brexit?

We have non-EU passports here, they are basically the same but red with a white cross on and cost more.....

This is Sedge.

I used to like having my passport stamped when I went on holiday to anywhere not the UK, and I don't see what's not to like - then when you leave they'll know immediately if you've overstayed this time and be able to check back to see if it cumulatively adds up to an overstay - and do whatever the law says they must do, if this country doesn't want to dance to their tune, then the remedy lay in this country's hands, end of story.

Back to restrictions on booze fags perfume and souvenirs.

My sisters mother in law years ago came back from 6 months in Spain and Morocco and stayed in hotels during the return journey cos the caravan fresh water tank was full of gin! Let's not mention the watches and other jewellery hidden in the lining of the fridge Mr E had dismantled and resealed before the journey...…..

We have the original Rabies vaccination record, the official blood test results and two Pet passports covering 13 years of visits to to Europe. (We filled the first one).

Now we are told that the Pet Passport will not be valid. However it appears that French, German, Italian etc passports will still be OK. And yes, they do have Pet Passports within Europe.

If there is a better reason to believe that the EU are determined to “punish” the UK for leaving, as it has no real effect on trade, immigration or finance I have yet to see it.

not punishment the UK are no longer subscribing to the rules so it's prfectly reasonable...perhaps it's the UK who is being unreasonable expecting to leave but still beong???

Those are the rules...if we're out of the EU we're out of the EU and we no longer play by their rules...that is what Brexit is all about...the UK don't want to play by EU rules...they want their own rules....the EU is not changing the UK is.

but won't the dog already have the blood test & part infilled in the passport to be able to return from Morocco, a non EU country ?

Yep, including the actual test certificate. That's why I say we've got all the paperwork required.

Think at moment it all depends on whether the EU deal gets accepted or not if it does get accepted dont think there will be too many problems - go out with no deal that is where the problems will start and snowball apart from just the pet passport point of view - you have to err on side of caution even if it means getting back by 28/3 or waiting till after the date and seeing what problems it has caused i feel better safe than sorry.

I know some people wont agree but it is down to how much of a problem you are happy to put up with but i like an easy life

Telephoned both our vets and neither of them knew what to do...
One said just wait ( they are ALWAYS useless ! ) the other promised to find out and call back

It is certainly a problem for those of us with a property in Spain where we are used to taking the family Pet with us for a few months twice a year.

Likewise for us in France.

Just had a reply from my Spanish vet, she was working late tonight!

As I have a Spanish NIE, address etc it will be no problem to issue a Spanish Pet Passport for our dog, will take about 10 minutes as she will have all the necessary details from the existing document.

Interestingly she has a meeting to attend in January when she expects to be updated on the requirements for animals from the U.K. travelling in Europe. They seem to be more organised than us, not unusual at the moment!

Thanks for posting this information Xabia (y)we've booked our return ferry from Fuerteventura earlier than we would like to make sure we can return through the tunnel before B day.

Probably be worth us getting a Spanish pet passport as well just to be sure.

Have a new puppy & intend travelling post 28/03 so I went to the vets. Puppy had rabies jab - blood tests booked for 14 Jan (over 30 days later) for both him & our other dog - been told if the bloods show a satisfactory rabies immunity then as long as we show that bloods certificate & keep the rabies vaccine up to date (every 3 years) then there will be no need for further blood tests nor a passport (though they said they would issue one if we don’t brexit) - will still need the worming & vet examination before returning to the UK

You are correct Markhub. The only bit you missed is you have to wait 3 months after the blood test result for a health certificate to be issued.

If UK pet passports are not going to be any use,the French vets will sell us EU passports. Another expense !
