Hi everyone. We have 2 small dogs and just loved the freedom to roam around Europe and are coming to terms with how to get the best out of what we have got. A vet in Southern Spain has said he will issue an EU Pet Passport, subject to the medical etc, which woudl more or less restore the freedom we previously enjoyed. But it’s a very long way to go. OK, we will probably go in spring anyway, but is there a vet that is nearer who will oblige - and fill in the forms correctly - as if so, we could pop over - overnight at Guines or similar and away we go. All help appreciated - and stay safe everyone

From this helpful thread I conclude that (1) An EU PP is a good idea (2) Better to get one anywhere but France (3) The cost reduction compared to successive AHC is significant (4) The geniuses negotiating the Protocol issues will probably muff this up just to try to show how awkward the Brits or the French can be (5) I’m fed up of contorting myself to try to get what i enjoyed for so many years

This.
Nip over on the ferry to Larne / Belfast and have a week round the North and head to Donegal where there are a few vets listed here on the forums that will do it for you.

The problem with going to France is you will HAVE to get 2 AHCs THEN you'll get the passports. So the AHCs are an extra £200-300 for you on the total bill.
Go to Ireland and simply drive across the border between Derry and Donegal and save that money.
The problem with going to Ireland we found after booking an appointment with the vet, was the cost of the ferry, far cheaper to get the AHC in Folkestone.

Ferry to Ireland return is £300 or just under, how much was the AHC?

Note to Peds, writing this on eurotunnel from France. Been into pet control with Portuguese passport for our dog and went straight through . Only hitch was opening my passenger locator form on my phone , once done went through without a problem. Anyone wondering about going to Europe and are sceptical dont panic just go for it.

No issues going into uk or out of uk via chunnel with Portuguese pet passport with uk rabies transferred. Anyone saying different at the ports is ill informed. There are many reasons an animal may have a passport of a different country than the one they are going to be resident in such as all the dogs being rehomed from eu countries to the UK.

No you don't need one for entering NI but that's not what I was trying to get across, what I am saying is you will need one for the vet in the republic IF you don't have the GB passport for them to transcribe the details? Im fairly sure Im right there from what Ive read.
Yes, you are right, old GB PP or AHC.
