It is unfortunate that many press releases and articles do not make clear that the registering of biometric data is only required on the first trip after the system comes live and only has to be repeated after 3 years.

People might think that they have to do the process on every trip in the interim period.
Yes but on every trip you will have to go to the machine and put your hand on to check your prints to make sure its you.

[EDIT - can you imagine those fingerprint screens in school holidays, when 200 sticky paws have been placed on them?]
