EU breakdown cover

I have just recieved a quote from NFU and was advised on the phone that they don't cover motorhomes for breakdown over 5.4 mtrs. I questioned this as I thought it was incorrect but NFU were adamant that it was correct. Thier premium was also higher than I expected.currently I am with Caravan guard and the renewal premium has increased from last year for the same cover by around £40 so looking around.
I yesterday asked Nfu whether they could insure our bungalow and contents for between £200 and £250 as I didn't want to go through all the quote and then find they couldn't meet Axis quote , she said " I doubt it " end of phone call.

We were just considering changing to the Nationwide flexplus account for cover but it doesn't cover repatriation if driver is not fit to drive. Since I had a stroke, only my husband drives. Does any other breakdown policy cover this other than CMC Red Pennant?

Have you checked whether your insurer will do EU breakdown cover? We have ours through Comfort and it works out around £60 for the year. Lots of here use Nationwide Flex bank account which cost £13 a month and covers all your vehicles, travel insurance, phone insurance so might be worth considering.
Unfortunately Nationwide no longer do travel insurance with flex acc

About FlexAccount travel insurance

If you opened a FlexAccount before 15 December 2016, you may have had European travel insurance with your account. We've now removed travel insurance from all our FlexAccount current accounts. You can still make a claim for incidents that happened before your cover expired.

Are there any of the packaged bank accounts that have breakdown insurance for larger and heavier motorhomes and also travel insurance for more than the normal 30/31 days ?

I have Barclays and it both are fairly restrictive

That’s interesting. I have a Nationwide FlexPlus account and from the information garnered from previous threads on the subject we are covered (subject to limitations on MoHo dimensions). The reason given for the exclusion in the policy documentation is to to allow for an element of ‘at our discretion’ to cover self-inflicted incapacitation, as in drink and drug abuse. Otherwise reparations for vehicle and occupants is covered - do a forum search for the answers received from Nationwide when questioned.

Wasn't there an issue with Nationwide over the limit to the length of van?
Some people thought it had been reduced to 7.5m length I think whereas it is 8m, just as it was previously.

We broke down in Carcassonne but called the AA as we were with Safeguard. The French AA hub in Lyon were wonderful, arranged for thePVC to be trailered back home and gave us a car and £1000 worth of hotels. We exchanged the car at Calais for a UK reg car, a new hyundai with 17 miles on the clock. In Spain when the windsceen motor went during horrendous rain they did not care at all and we had to sort it out ourselves with the local Citroen garage. AA in France top marks, in Spain none at all.

If you read your policy book it does say no motorhomes over 5.4metres. I only know as we’ve gone with NFU this year as they cover Turkey and Cyprus. We were told we were covered but sad person that I am I read the manual and went back in and told the lovely Carla so that she wouldn’t mislead anyone who might complain! We don’t need breakdown in the UK as have it with our bank account.

We’ve gone with Green Flag for EU as they cover Turkey and Cyprus (North and South).

Flex plus travel insurance only upto 31 days
Their EU recovery only 60 days

Both get terrible reviews ....

I never want to make any claims, but if I need insurance, I want it to work....
