Has anyone any experience of using Call Assist's EU breakdown cover please?
I used Compare Breakdown Cover as recommended by MoneySaving Expert to get quotes for annual EU breakdown cover and this was the only firm that quoted. £91.29 which includes UK as well.
I looked at their Trust Pilot reviews but all the reviews I looked at were for UK breakdowns.
Having read through quite a few useful threads on the forum, it seems that all the firms offering EU breakdown cover use the same local recovery firms so is it safe just to pick a policy based on price alone (after checking that they cover your camper/moho of course)?

Have you checked whether your insurer will do EU breakdown cover? We have ours through Comfort and it works out around £60 for the year. Lots of here use Nationwide Flex bank account which cost £13 a month and covers all your vehicles, travel insurance, phone insurance so might be worth considering.

I have a policy with them since last year not used them in anger yet though. UK and EU for my old 1999 Hobby. £109.

And the car with UK gold cover £45

I extended the warranty to five years on our new MAN TGE which gives roadside assistance Europe wide. Also have a Nationwide Flex bank account for all other cover.

We broke down in calais and towed to local fiat garage who couldn’t fix the problem, so we returned to uk by ferry as foot passengers with a hire car available for us to drive home. Cannot fault LV breakdown which also covers you for any vehicle that you are in even if you don’t own it. Just received my annual mh renewal request from them, £418 including uk and Europe breakdown.

I have a policy provided by South Yorkshire Police Federation, pay £26 monthly and covers me and SWMBO, with worldwide travel insurance, breakdown cover for all of our vehicles UK and Europe, health insurance, mobile phones, emergency plumbing insurance at home plus lots more. Not bad.

I have had a good quote from AIB for insurance and they will use Highway Insurance (LV). They offer UK/EU breakdown for an extra £88.55. I wonder if this is the same cover as you have i.e. any vehicle I am in. I have an AutoAid policy that covers us both for any vehicle and, if the new policy also does that then I won't renew with AutoAid.

We are covered in our Safeguard Insurance for AA European Assistance. When we broke down multiple times in France 2019 due to an Engine Management System issue which 4 French garages could not fix we were covered for 3 weeks of car hire and the necessary accommodation. The van was eventually repatriated a month after we go home. Overall value to us probably £2-2500 but cost us nothing.
The AA Assistance centre in France were really helpful, keeping us up to date with the (lack of) progress and making technical translations. At one stage we were facing a bill for a new ECU at €2000 but when we got back to UK the dealer found a worn earthing strap was the root cause!

It’s not funny you breakdown in a mh and they offer you a car to carry on your journey

Especially as it was a Fiat 500X. Me the wife and dog plus most of our important posessions had to squeeze into it. But better than nothing at all. At least we got to visit the area we finally broke down in (Beujolais, hic).

Red Pennant was great for us in Spain

Comprehensive cover in the EU? I didn't realise that the normal cover isn't automatically the same as in the UK!
Looks like it depends on individual policies so its worth checking yours if you aren't sure.
I just found this on the RAC site:
"Can I drive abroad on my current car insurance?
If you’re taking your own car to Europe through the Channel Tunnel or on a ferry, you’ll usually be covered by your UK car insurance.
Pretty much all UK policies give you at least the minimum level of cover required for driving in the European Union as standard.
One thing to watch, however, is that you might find the cover provided is only third party. This means if you have an accident, you won’t be able to make a claim to repair your own vehicle – you’ll only be covered for damage to the other car or cars involved.
Other policies will retain the level of protection you already have, so if you have a fully comprehensive policy in the UK, the same applies to travelling in Europe too."

Not knowing about your details, but, getting a Policy like you have provided do you have to be or have been in the Police Force ?

I know that Insurance companies will only insure vehicles registered in the country where they operate.

Does this also apply to Breakdown Cover companies?

If not, does anyone know of companies which operate cross-border?

You do have to be in the police to get it, but you can pay for cover once you’ve retired.

check the small print for the European breakdown cover. I have the west Mids Police Federation package and the breakdown cover previously covered me for car and caravan (over 7m) in the EU with the RAC. Checked it for motorhomes and only covers up to 7m long. Mine is 7.02m and I thought about trying my luck but decided against it as it would be just my luck for some jobsworth to check the spec on the internet. I arranged the cover offered by my insurers and got it with the RAC and strangely enough, length didn't matter. I broke down taking it out of storage the first time I took it out and they sent a low loader to take it back to the dealer for repair. That must have saved me a few hundred quid first time I used it. Good value for eighty odd quid.

Mine is for 7m and 3500, my my fits both. One of the things I checked, didn’t want to find out at the time you needed it that you weren’t covered.

Yes, be careful and check any new EU breakdown policy carefully before committing to buy.
In the process of getting quotes for my next year's insurance, I came across one policy that had a width limit of 2,040cm. Our Ducato-based PVC is 2,050cm wide! I can't think there can be anything other than smaller campervans that would fit within their limit.

German's ADAC will give cover to vehicles registered in EU countries.

URGENT MESSAGE FOR ADAC PLUS MEMBERS

It is with regret I have to add this Statement received fro, ADAC Office. It means your will loose your ADAC Plus Cover next year as only German Citizens will be able to have this Service. The Ordinary cover they offer you only covers Germany so means you will have to look for a new UK based Organisation. This is not due to Brexit as it is same for all Members Worldwide

This is notice I got today from ADAC this morning, which I have translated below As you are an interested member of ADAC, the ADAC focuses its mobility services, in particular on its more than 21 million members based in Germany, in order to provide them with the best offers and services worldwide, against the background that the complexity of legal requirements is constantly increasing it has to be fulfilled in connection with residence abroad, we have decided to offer services in the rhythm of ADAC membership exclusively for members residing in Germany
Therefore we will change your ADAC plus membership (and possibly existing memberships of partners / children) from 01.02.21 to membership without plus benefits.
Nevertheless, you will continue to be protected under your classic ADAC membership, for which you will of course pay a correspondingly cheaper membership fee. The services associated with classic ADAC membership, such as breakdown assistance in Germany, legal advice, ADAC Tourset or the ADAC benefit program, remain the same for them
If your main residence is in Germany and does not correspond to the address given above, please let us know the address of your main residence in Germany,
Sincerely

Adrian Flux sorted us out in Spain after a breakdown.Spot on
All for £91 includes 60 days euro cover my is tag axel 4.5 tonnes
Thats what I had with them last year but 60 days per annum isn't enough for us now I have finished work, will prob do two trips in EU this year

We insured motorhome with Safeguard covered traveling abroad

I have just recieved a quote from NFU and was advised on the phone that they don't cover motorhomes for breakdown over 5.4 mtrs. I questioned this as I thought it was incorrect but NFU were adamant that it was correct. Thier premium was also higher than I expected.currently I am with Caravan guard and the renewal premium has increased from last year for the same cover by around £40 so looking around.

West Yorkshire Police had/have a similar scheme that for an extra payment can be carried on in retirement.

Unfortunately, one becomes an 'outsider' once the age of 70yrs is reached.
