I'm a newbie
might be useful for use when abroad to get a esim without having to go to a shop just buy using phone or laptop

I bought an e sim for use in the USA this year. I primed it first in England but when we got to America I couldn’t get it to work at all. The company refunded me no problem but I was hoping it would work out.

That does look interesting....

Not sure if that's a one off purchase price or a subscription deal though (or something in between)

I like the concept but not sure how legit this company is.

The app APK file is only available for Android outside the security of the Play Store as a download. You then need to know how to change security settings on your phone to install it as it's a third party source.

No way would I do any of that! The business is based in Hong Kong so goodness only knows what will be downloaded onto your phone.

Their concept of it being supported on iOS devices seems 'interesting' too:

So you can use it on an iOS device if you've first set it up on Android. :roflmto:

Alternatively you can set it up on a PC (which I'm guessing means Windows) - so it doesn't look all that useful for Apple users as it stands....

Oh!

Just asked a question on the Explore Van UK YouTube video (nothing controversial) and it's been deleted almost instantly!

I wonder which nerve I accidentally touched...

Eh?

The video that Langtoftlad posted in post #4 of this thread.

I asked a question and it was on there for maybe two minutes and then got deleted.

It was just asking about which devices they'd tried it in which I didn't think was particularly contentious.

Something about this that doesn't quite feel right to me. I'll stick with my old methods for now and will upgrade my router to something esim compatible when I'm feeling rich again.

They all seem to require OMAPI on Android for whatever reason.

Teltonika have a new range of esim routers.

Think I'll upgrade my unit and have native support without going down this adapter route which I don't completely trust.

while Teltonika advertises it as consumer esim friendly, I read somewhere that its support of 3rd party esim profiles is at best limited...

Interesting... I've not really looked into it in any great detail, but that definitely sounds like it needs researching before parting with cash...

Have you tried it?
Yep... I've got one... loaded the eSim onto the SIM using an old spare phone, and the SIM is now in my router. I used it at Easter for a Lyca Mobile PAYG eSIM 300gb for 14 Euro... all worked brilliantly... had to create a Lyca Mobile account to cancel the auto renewal, but I guess it means if the same offer is in force when I go over again in August I'll just need to top up...

Its the same one that I mentioned on the Home Assistant thread you were on...

Sorry, I think we might be at cross purposes.

I was referring to Randomstop's comment regarding the Teltonika devices might not yet be as good as they should in terms of supporting 3rd party eSIM profiles.

I'm certainly not going to be spending a lot of money to upgrade to a Teltonika eSIM capable model if it's not up to scratch!

If the profile is loaded on the sim from something like a spare phone then taken out and put in the teltonika routers I can't see how that wouldn't work as at that point it's just a sim but already configured to work.

I asked the same question and got the reply below.

Yep that's what I've done... in fact I think it helps as you get all the mobile network welcome messages on the phone...

Looks like a good solution as most esim routers are a bit pricey.

This is not about physical sim cards with esim profile capabilities, some new Teltonika routers are capable of storing and using and managing esim profile on routers themselves without need for a sim card. About the same way as phones do.

Yes I have seen these but they are just too expensive. Better to have the best of both worlds

Hi I’m a bit of a technophobe and currently on our first trip abroad for 6 weeks. We entrusted our daughter of the mobile generation to look into this for us. She got us each and esim from Lyca mobile with 35 gig of data (we don’t stream
or watch tele when away) and it’s great. One on my phone and one on my wife’s in case we need more. £12:50 each
