We have had to cancel our Spain September trip due to unexpectedly purchasing a new camper which we get 3 days before departure and therefore we wouldn’t have V5 from DVLA.

So, change of plan and 3 weeks in Southern England planned. We would like to include some stays/tastings of English wine/champagne, and are looking for recommendations of suitable vineyards? Restaurants attached would be an added bonus!

Suggestions please?

Don’t know what your definition of south is but the vineyard at Wroxeter in Shropshire is very pleasant. When we were there a couple of years back it was also a Britstop. Not sure it is now, but there is a CL round the corner. A visit to the Roman remains of the town are also worth visiting if you like history.

I count 16 BritStop offerings as Farm Shops or Other south of the M4. For approximately £40 it’s cheaper than a trip to Spain 😉

These have restaurants, andyou could always ask.

Chapel Down near Tenterden has a very good restaurant, we’ve visited a few times. The car park is flat gravel and would be a good stop.

Tillingham is on our list, I’ll copy the Mundus share as there’s more info there.

From the Times: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/marina-oloughlin-reviews-tillingham-east-sussex-9rbqjrswl

this is Tillingham, a vineyard that does things differently. Like many of the other wine growers round these parts, it has created a hospitality arm, with a restaurant, bar, wine shop and rooms; unlike them, it looks as though it has all grown organically, like its fruits: bursts of wild flowers here and there, buildings decoratively incomplete, no Michelin “exec chefs”, the feeling that they might change their mind about what’s offered depending on the weather. Literally.

I’m here after spotting the new chef, Tom Ryalls, via a pal on Instagram, wooed by his very sexy pedigree: ex-Moro, ex-St John. His cooking fits right into the place’s general air of insouciance: nothing too try-hard, everything lovelier than you might expect, under rather than overpromising. Even a cheese course — my least favourite, Caerphilly (apologies, Caerphilly) — brings a particularly lovely, oozy-not-chalky example, with pane carasau-style crackers and a ruby-limpid quince jelly, sharp, sweet, perfect.

Lunch or pizza outside Fri - Sun.

BAR
Our wine bar opens from noon each day where we serve cheese and charcuterie between 12:00 – 21:00. No bookings needed.

Last year Tillingham welcomed head chef, Brendan Eades (formerly Doug McMaster’s Silo, The Conduit Club). Brendan’s talents and experience focusing on field-to-fork dining have meant some exciting new developments to our overall food offering.
The restaurant serves a Garden Menu in the evenings, a six course tasting menu showcasing beautiful produce from our own walled garden and surrounding farms; meat reared on Tillingham pastures; and fish caught daily down at Rye Harbour.
Lunch is a simple affair served Friday – Sunday; expect a two or three course set with Sundays offer designed with family style feasting in mind. Typically we’d serve whole fish or lamb shoulder with sides from the garden for the table to share. You can view all sample menus below.

The request did not specify any cost criteria.
Yes but we've moved to Yorkshire I'm not sure theyd let's me back in! We stayed on a French winery in the Gerard Bertrand group in a hotel. They do a wiine tasting and dinner with a live jazz band with matching wines and a hotel for the night for about the amount of the top wine experience at the English vineyard

Why the unexpectedly purchasing a new camper? Didn’t you have a lovely Wildax Mercedes Elara?
We do, however we have always felt that moving up to 7m was just a step too far for us compared to the 6.4m Fiat. Mercedes base has been great, superb auto box/engine combination. This became more apparent in our recent months holiday in Germany where some of the best stellplatz places were a bit tight for us!

So once back home gave Ian at IH Motorhomes a call, by chance they had 2 of the final 9speed 180 box autos in stock, we reserved one, down the following week to design a one off camper to suit our needs and we pick it up mid Sept. So a bit unexpected but really looking forward to it, will suit our retirement style of vanning!!

Curious why you can't go to Spain without V5 ?

DVLA requirement that you have it with you when you leave the country, also Spanish police do ask for it if your stopped for a violation, don’t ask how we know!!
Of course you could take the chance and hope you don’t get stopped, we chose not to.

Not so new now
This is another interesting website. If you click on visit and then clusters it brings up the vineyards in a particular location. There’s also the option to set filters for food, accommodation etc. but unfortunately not whether or not they allow overnight Motorhome stays. The campsite option is just related to those with actual campsites.

I have an old map they used to produce but it looks like it’s all web based now.
