There is no such thing as a BOG STANDARD!

Clive takes a look at Dump Points.

How many times have you gone to do your duty , taken great care during the procedure only to be greeted as you enter the door with “You Stink”. Gratitude I ask you. So what is important when disposing of what comes naturally?.

Should you pay?. How far do you carry it? Often down to you. (Fig 18) Is the Tipping Point at a convenient height?. Safe and secure cap perch not likely to disappear down a big hole.

Water for flushing and rinsing to hand and hose not contaminated by the previous user?

Good design to minimise splashback Some seem to be designed to get you but other s keep it all contained. Some can make you smile or even appreciate the engineering elegance. Some you just wonder “Whoever dreamed that one up”

A few that have caught my eye.

Fig 1 The “French Connection” . At ground level so poor in the Backache category . Splashback is likely. The cap is a challenge as the walls each side are pointed. This Squattez-vous themed facility. Made me smile. Handy hose.

Fig 8 & Fig 15 Dump-Eze. Lots of these around Australia and intended for both cassette emptying and a service point for RVs. Handy hose, Park your cap on the supporting slab but DO NOT follow the instructions on the lid and kneel alongside to empty your cassette. Unless you want wet and smelly knees. No humour in this!

Fig 10 A posh point this time at Burton Stather. A back cracker with a high level of splashability. Tipping point is actually below your feet! But doesn’t it shine!

Fig 11 An exercise in aluminium welding. With care splashes are minimal but don’t rush . Not so bad for your back . Nice welding!

Fig 14 My favourite. A wheelie bin in a surround. Open the lid and there it is. Beautifully rendered in cement to the right height. No bending down so 100% score in the non backache category. Handy hose. Straight sides mean that splash back is unlikely.

Fig 20 Oh no its not, Oh yes it is! “We don’t have a dump point here but if you are chemical free then lift out the grille and put it down there. But keep quiet about it. It worked and I won’t say a thing!

Fig 17 Home disposal. Seldom do we manage our drive home without using the loo. A visit to the local builders merchants enabled a large screw cap access to the sewer plumbing for use on these occasions . Outside tap and hose is adjacent so it does the basics.

Fig 19 New Forest animal safe facility. (Camping and Caravanning Club) Scores very high on most fronts. Elevated from the ground to save your back, handy hose, spring closed access bar to keep animals out, well maintained. Place to put the cap. Reasonable splash protection. Nice in stainless steel. The caravan club sites have something similar crafted in fibreglass.

Fig 28 Temporary dump point. These large plastic tanks are used by many organisations and a flushing hose is normally situated cable tied to a fence alongside. Find these at motorhome shows and even on the temporary sites at the NEC. “Adequate” . Two large filling holes, one each end. It is amazing how many empty their cassette contents into one of the strengthening dimples soon to find blue pongy feet!

Figs 30 These are the pay to use Borne’s found all over Europe . The emptying point is free but the rinsing water often requires a coin or a token. Tight fisted campers may use a drop of grey water to flush the cassette, but I could not suggest this. When your cassette is full and you are out of fresh water a Borne is a saviour. Can you find a stick to flick up the cover? Should have brought the Marigolds. Wash the hands well afterwards.

Figs 26 How to “Spend a Penny”. The Thetford Dumpomatic (My name!) accepts your full cassette, removes all covers , empties, flushes, rinses, cleans and re-charges with chemical then gives it back five minutes later. The Machine is on tour and they hope will be taken up by prime camp sites. Costs expected to be around £3.50 a dump.

Tipping Point here we come!.

Clive

Welcome back.

I have not seen you around posting anywhere for a long time, and now you have been flushed out by a post far removed from your excellent expertise.

Obviously a man of many talents.

If you have time may we hear what you have been up to?

Are you still writing for MMM(MH 'Marketing' Mag)? Which I have given up - partly through living in Poland.

It would be good to hear from you.

Geoff

The Thetford automatic machine I found at Torre la sal 2. It was next to a conventional and free dump. I never saw anyone use the machine.
I would never use it because:
1.expensive
2.puts in the evil Thetford blue.
3. Puts in a litre of water. Wtf thats for, if I've just emptied it I don't want it filling up again.

I hate making embarrassing noises in the toilet, I pray for someone to operate the hand dryer at the optimum moment....... Now there's no need

Camping Funtana a l'Ora, Porto, Corsica. Classic emptying point design error - only one tap for fresh water and rinsing. We used our own hose. :)

Basic disposal point but only facility for rinsing was the fresh water hose. :(

If there was a star system for disposal points this one would merit a five.

Inside their own bespoke pagoda...

...is a magnificent TRIPLE array! Spotlessly clean.

The thing on the right is for rinsing. The tap is inside a deep sink so water doesn't flow all over the floor as it usually does, a very clever and simple design.

Camping Domaine de la Bergerie, Vence, near Nice, France, CC #72746.

Came upon this one in Sutton on Sea
6C5C8361-6807-430F-80E1-D0A9E17DE81D.jpeg

Apparently the owner is hoping to upgrade by colour coordinating the watering can with the water butt, he is looking for either a green watering can or a galvanised water butt whichever he finds at the car boot first.

After searching the entire site for grey and black disposal at Tayvallich, the warden pointed us to the very basic combined grey and black disposal point.

No signs, no rinse tap, just a piece of rope.... no wonder we couldn’t find it ?
