morning all,
Just a quick question....
Are the plug sockets supposed to work when your not hooked up or do you only rely on the leisure battery?

All your lights come off the 12v system, batteries are charged when your engine is running.
Fridge will run off gas or 12v when engine is running-you usually have to select the power source, switch on fridge (unless your a new van then its automatic) also will run off mains only when you are plugged in.
Get a 12v TV, when you are plugged into mains it will still run off 12v but your batteries are being recharged whilst on hook up.
Get a kettle you can use on the gas hob!
Basically if you are not on hook up you are relying on your batteries-12volt, (which is why a lot of people have solar panels and a couple of big batteries) and gas.

So on the solar panel front, they just recharge your battery, does having 2 batteries make life better? I know they affect weight allowance.

We will be looking for an older MH and I doubt if it will have solar panels, is it worth investing in these please?

If you are going to spend time off ehu then you are using your hab battery.
It will need topping up if you are parked up for a bit, that can be done via solar.

Ya pays ya money............

It's clear that all your camping has been done on sites that provide an EHU that you have used in your tent. If you intend to go to the same sites in the motorhome, then you can continue with exactly the same equipment.

You only need to change to 12V if you want to exploit the freedom the motorhome brings & stop in places where EHU is not available.

Get a kettle that works on the gas hob no matter what. Being able to have a brew wherever is invaluable even if you always head for a site at night.

Solar can save you some money if EHU is charged separately. In fact it would soon pay for itself by what UK sites charge for it.

Thanks again, I think to start with will do sites to get the hang of it all, where help is at hand.

Once we're confident of everything then start doing the touring thing.

It's so strange thinking of travelling about, but as others have said, we'll get used to it after a few trips

Cheers Jakki x
