You should do research to find the best deal available to you for gas and electricity for your domestic supply.
Whether you need to plug the motorhome in to charge is a different question. If you have solar panels, it may not be necessary especially in summer, unless atm with this very damp cloudy summer in the UK

I am puzzled I am on Flexible Octopus and my variable rate is 29.26p per kWh with a standing charge of 56.96 per day, may be they are offering you a fixed rate ?

I plug my van and and pay the standard rate 30.72 per KW. How have they come up with 50p per kw. have they given you an explanation?

We dont pay that with octopus. I think the daytime rate is 38or 39 p and night time 9 p. But we do have a smart meter.

Are Octopus using a dynamic pricing? As it looks as though there are many different prices !

I've just taken their fixed loyalty offer and it's 28.02 kwh + 49p standing charge. I'm hoping it saves me over the winter but think it will be high come the summer. All depends on the next price fix. Octopus variable is nowhere near 50 though sounds wrong somewhere.

Flexible is possibly the best place to be because then you get the capped rate.

If you have solar and/or batteries the Agile rate lets you charge the batteries at night and feed in at 15 per kw hour during the day. Some nights they pay you to top up!

I have just sent this email via the app, I will post the reply,

Octopus team,

Do you operate a Dynamic pricing system? I am currently on a flexible tariff but on talking to other Octopus users many on the flexible (variable) tariff we all appear to be paying different rates.

One such is paying

Product Type Variable
Payment Method Direct Debit
Unit Rate 28.85p/kWh
Standing Charge 45.67p/day (£166.70/year)
Price Guaranteed Until Not applicable
Early Exit Fee None

If this the case that you appear to be charging what you think we can pay, that is unfair at least and potentially discriminatory at worst.
Can you advise what’s going on please
Regards
Dave Curley

Can I gloat ?

Here in Spain (inflation 1.9%) I pay €0.10xx/Kwh between 2300hrs and midday, and €0.15xx/Kwh midday-2300hrs.
(All 'green' power - but here they include nuclear in that)
These rates haven't changed in nearly 3 years.
They pay me €0.10/Kwh for power I feed-in to the grid (2.18MWh so far this year).
Standing charge, €0.26/day
(ignore the Belgian flag; VPN getting in the way of Jim's code)

My understanding is the standing charge is set not by the provider but by offGen / government or some other body like that. It's part of where they are recovering funds for when they had to bail out the failed energy suppliers. And yes it went up again in July.

On and off for many years.
We have changed to Octopus Agile and they sometimes pay us to use electric!

The half hourly tariff is notified the day before so making it possible to plan what is used when.

I don't believe any provider, offgen, or the government had told us when they expect the inflated standing charges on both Gas & Electric to bail out the bust providers to end?
When do they think they would have recouped enough money from us that never elected to use these economically fragile providers?, I bet someone is making a load of money as usual, while we are forced to pay it.
I don't think our continental cousins would have put up with this for so long, they would have been out trashing the streets before now.🧄🐌
