just looking
Hi all
We have just ordered a Roller Team T-Line 700 as our first motorhome only having camped before so new to the EHU world. Wondering what people’s views are on what length of cable to get. Have seen a few comments in various places that 10m ones can be on the short side depending on the site layout but one comment suggested 25m which seems a bit belt, braces and piece of string especially as I get that you need to unroll the whole cable to avoid the overheating issue when in use.
As ever thanks in advance for all the comments!

Electricity is dangerous, a mates Son was electrocuted and died when he touched a record turn table and his toe touched a pipe in the lounge. The turn table wasn’t earthed and had been in use for years….
many years ago in the Riyadh, in an apartment with duel electrical circuits, one 120V the other 240v. The renters had two fridges for the illegal brew, on either side of the kitchen. One on the US 120V and the other on the 240V. If you open both fridge doors wide, you could stand in the middle of the room and grab both handles. If you did, then you would get a shock, it always bothered me how they found out?

and how do you test before plugging in your cable?
You can use an adapter from round blue CEE-form plug to 13A UK socket. Then use a 13A socket tester. Assuming you haven't got a CEE-form socket tester - I'm sure they exist, but I've never seen one.

I usually plug in the hookup cable at both ends, then test a socket in the MH. I've found it reversed about one in twenty times. But the main thing I'm looking for is to make sure the earth is present. I've never seen a hookup post with a missing earth problem, maybe I've just been lucky.

Now that looks like a proper tester. Something that I’d be inclined to buy and use. As soon as people have talked about buying a spare cable , chopping bits off and then joining them together the opposite way round I know that’s not for me. Sounds more dangerous for the amateur than not bothering at all which is what we’ve been relying on these last 13 years.

I have a 30m, a 25m, a 10m and a 5m. Don't carry the 25m much, but have needed 40m on a site ins Switzerland.
Problem is all my cables are 2.5mm, so weigh a ton. You see these flimsy 1.5mm cables on a standard DIY extension reel all over the continent, still wound in tight, neat coils 💥🔥. Probably not a problem if your supplied amperage is less than six amps, but some of the more resorty sites we stay at often have 10+ amps. Got a watertight connector too. Only ever used it once.

Yes, I still test for an earth, and in doing so, you can check reverse polarity at the same time. I have got a reverse polarity adapter, and use it, although I know it probably isn't necessary.
