EE Roaming charges

Same with me. I'd been with them for 6 years, phoned up in January saying I intended to leave and told them that I was looking for free roaming.
No offer was made.
I'm now with Tesco.
You need to contact the 'Retentions' department, they're the ones that make improved offers.

On arrival in Spain I bought a Lobster SIM ( all services in English) 200gb £16 every 28 days
I obtained a Lobster SIM on a campsite here in Spain under a special offer first month free then 25 euros for 150gb PAYG 28 day arrangement. Shortly after starting using I got an email telling me that Lobster had doubled my data to 300gb for the same price. Amazing and just shows how the market is moving fast.

Just to be clear; can you watch UK TV while in Spain with a Lobster sim and NO VPN?

And how would I buy one when visiting Spain as I don’t have an address there.

Thanks
Hi ,I use a fire stick for all my tv whilst in Spain and can watch all channels without a VPN.The lobster SIM can be used in UK also.
Check out the website ,the allowance has just doubled, there is shops all over and calling them it's all English speaking.
They just used the campsite I am on as an address and put my plot number in.
Cheers Cris 🍻

Do you use your Lobster sim in a phone or a router? I am thinking of doing this when we go to Spain in March but I have had a lot of trouble with standard sims rather than Data sims working in my router. Neither Tesco or Lebara worked but an EE data one did. RWG did but they have changed their packages now and we went to IQ mobile last trip and their data cap reduced to 25gb! Trying to find an alternative is a nightmare each trip lol! Also can you just get the Lobster Sim in a supermarket or do I need to find a mobile phone shop?
I have used, iq mobile and popit last couple of years but the are expensive and capped now.
I used the lobster SIM in a huewei WiFi at first shop set it up but now just keep it in my phone and hotspot it with no issues but it has to be activated in a mobile first.
Look on the website ,I don't know if you can order one to be posted out but I got it in the shop as I was here in Spain

Things move fast.. was online chat with o2 just about to sign up when I gat a call from EE 'retentions' offered me the same deal I already have for half what I'm paying now, £26 down to £12.. 100Mb free roaming included... well chuffed.
Are your figures correct? 100Mb won't go far if streaming.

Lobster for exclusively English speakers in Spain is gotta be a troll right?

100Mb is more than enough, even using my phone as a hot spot so MrsW can use 'my' data, and tethering to my/our laptops.

We don't stream anything.

If you are not aware, Tesco are changing there contracts in 2026 and free roaming will stop I am not sure what they will replace it with.

If you take a sim contract out with Tesco now for 2 years the roaming is included for the life of the contract. Confirmed by two staff at different stores. If you buy a phone on contract the length is three years...

Have been using ee data roaming for the past 3 years on our visits to the Spain/Portugal which normally last around 90 days. I have a Sim only deal for £22 a month which gives me unlimited data and until now have paid £25 a month for a roaming pass. Whilst it may seem expensive to some I find the ee network gives brilliant coverage. EE have now decided to stop the monthly pass and change it to a weekly pass @ £25 so £100 a month or a £2.47 daily charge so around £75 so looks like I will be looking elsewhere for a better deal.
I am with I.D.which uses 3..I get excellent strength all over Europe..Its an old contract so still get 100 gb that rolls over..Just taken a Tesco out for my wife's phone..BUSBY.

I keep researching this and it is a little confusing.

It is my understanding that even if you get ‘free roaming’ in Europe, there is still likely to be a cap on data. Above any cap you have to pay.

Last year (our first in Europe) my 1P mobile only allowed me to use 15GB out of my available 30 GB. So we bought a PAYG Spanish sim with no contract for 16e which gave us 50 or 60GB (I can’t remember exactly) and found that our requirement was approximately 30-35GB. When the month ended I couldn’t work out how to top it up and simply bought another.

I've been doing a bit of testing on my normal data consumption. I only use around 8Gb a month on my tablet with £6.50 a month lebara sim. Rather less on my phone.
I don’t watch TV though. A bit of youtube.

Brilliant that sounds great, especially if they will set it up too!

I too moved from EE to Lebara.

I had a combined broadband/mobile contract. At renewal time they steadfastly refused to drop the offer despite being higher than most and were expensive to roam.

So I walked- Community fibre for broadband (really excellent BTW) and Lebara for the mobile and free roaming.

I spent the next couple of days fending off”please come back” calls from EE.. Too late, already installed.

I thought Lebara were limited to 30g roaming??

We didn’t get to check it out at Xmas as I didn’t work at all and lebara, via India, was no use getting it to work.

I have been to two Tesco stores and asked about roaming. None of the sales people knew what will happen in 2026. They akso couldn't clarify what would happen if i took out a two year contract now. Ill check again at a different store.

We took a contract sim for our Mifi a few months ago from local store, without prompting salesman said prices are fixed and the roaming inclusive until the end of contract. Last week we at a different store looking for a new phone and contract, salesman said the same thing as previous one. Maybe we just got lucky with knowledgeable people or they both lied... we will find out next year which it was.

Just done some digging... looks like they were telling the truth but you have to have the clubcard deal to get the roaming till end of contact.

“As well as benefiting from great savings and frozen prices, we’re delighted to confirm that customers on a Clubcard Prices deal (including both new & mid-contract customers) will now also enjoy EU roaming for no extra cost for the length of their minimum contract period.

“This extension to 2026 and its introduction to the Clubcard Price proposition is a testament to our commitment to providing exceptional value and convenience to our customers.”

I've (and hers) been with BT for a while then on to EE post Brexit. Seems I lost the free EU roaming as the new contract was post Brexit rules on a tariff called X21. BUT hers was transferred along with mine but she was left on the pre-Brexit tariff called X20
Upshot is she has free EU roaming while I don't. That's worth £25 per month while we are away. I can gift her my data and then hotspot onto her phone to access the data I gifted to her. That's 140 Gb or so. Can tethered to watch videos etc.
So its worth checking what tariff you would get if you have been with the same provider pre-Brexit. Also check whether your new provider permits tethering of phones.
(All this assumes you are not going for a data only SIM)

Lobster being a common colour of the skin of a large number of Brits in Spain.
Sorry I don't understand the logic of your post.
People are looking for information on sim cards for use when they come to EU and I am just trying to help by given my experience of what I do every year whilst here .
If you're comment was a bit tongue and cheek best to put a wee smiley emoji 😁 to show this. As it leaves some confusion ( for me anyway) as to wether you are trying to be a wee bit funny and having a bit of banter 😅 or being a wee bit sarcastic as I am unsure.!!

Cheers Cris 🍻.

Checked with another store and that is the line I got. The roaming will only apply to Sim contracts on the Clubcard deals. They only have two at the moment at 12gb and 30gb, both are 12 months only. Ill stick with my Lebara contract which is half the price and gives me 30gb roaming. The salesman said there maybe new deals in March, so maybe worth looking then.
