Edinburgh Hogmanay Cancelled

We went out with Sister and BIL last night to local pub in town for Hogmanay and they closed the bar at 10.30pm 🙀 We were amazed that Dalbeattie was like a ghost town and no fireworks at all, I thought Hogmanay was a big thing in Scotland 😵‍💫
2nd of January is usually a busy pub day in Dalbeattie…….! Pubs have always closed early on Hogmanay in Dabatey!

I’m intrigued as to why, if falling masonry was/is recognised as such a risk all those years ago, as to why action hasn’t been taken to ensure the risk hasn’t been reduced by actually identifying the buildings affected and remedial action being required to be carried out. High winds can take place most of the winter period so on a busy December shopping day the risk must necessitate closures as well?
Waitress was killed at Ryans bar , west end of Princes' Street , many years ago . Falling masonry came through pub awning .
Think some regulations were introduced after but not sure .
So yes , good question

I wondered about this as well, surely Edinburgh is just as busy for the fringe and tattoo.
We get high winds in summer as well, and the buildings are still in the same condition.
🤔.

Probably not the same numbers concentrated in one area ?
When 'Edinburgh Hogmanay' first started it was open house . As I remember there were some serious crowd problems. Fortunately no disasters .

Edinburgh is hoaching during the fringe and it lasts lot longer than one night at hogmanay.
Even if that was true, at what point does a large crowd become too risky for any event in any ageing city?

It is certainly hoaching , I live amongst it in the centre of the Old Town .
Argument would be that the crowds are more spread out but , of course , there is always a risk .
