Ours are on the home insurance policy and covered whilst travelling. 2 x Brompton and a Trek ebike that is north of 4k, + sons 3 bikes. Very little extra on the policy from memory.

Unfortunately we don't have house insurance. But thank you.

I use Sundays insurance, bike cost 7.5k and I pay£220 a year. I previously had an e-bike insured on the house insurance and when I had to make a claim they were difficult.

Typically if you join British Cycling they’ll offer 3rd party, theft insurance etc. I do it here with Swiss Cycling but most organisations offer it, some include crash replacement and even damage to other equipment like clothing. It might be cheaper than a specific policy.

We have used Sundays insurance £18 a month to cover both bikes. Its there worldwide policy which is good for up to 90 days trips. That's cheaper than my scooter insurance.

Gone onto the Quotezone website, get some quotes but don't do anything and a few days later you will start getting emails from the same companies that quoted but at much lower prices.

What size are the motors on your new bikes? If above 250W you may struggle to get insurance on a non household insurance, check the detail in the policy as 250W is the limit for e-bikes I believe.

Another approach
I've just spent the money on decent locks which the insurance company will require you to use anyway to reduce the risk to them (all at your cost)
2 Litelock X1's, a motorcycle disklok with alarm (about £30) and a big thick Oxford chain.I use them individually or all together depending on the situation and, on the motorbike and motorhome when not needed on the bikes so get good value from them.

As quoted by Stonemags76 we travel for 9 months of the year and when we work for 3 months we go into rental/short term let flats.
So no house insurance.

I've had house insurance for 30 years and never claimed. Don't have any alarms or other security either (other than locks on the doors).

I go for the cheapest cover now - just in case the house should burn down while we are away.

I think you will find they don’t have a house! 🏠
But, surely their possessions hence ebikes would be insured? If not, am gob smacked.

Life is full of choices, happy to say
