Well I’m sure this vans cursed, EBD warning light has just come on after we’ve started up, now got reduced performance, we’re going to head to Switzerland today not looking good now, stuck on a site tow truck on route:devil:
Anyone else had this problem? Can’t imagine this will be an easy fix in France,

What van have you & what base unit?

Checked fuses, battery connections, so stumped

EBD warning light came on ours before we left for present trip. All brake warnings came on and speedo stopped working. No change in performance though. Ignored it and put the thread on here...most responses suggested dashboard cluster problem. Strange thing is that if I turn ignition on and wait about 15 seconds then start engine I don't get warnings. Don't think that's going to help you but consider if it is a typical Fiat Ducato cluster problem.
 
At garage doing diagnostics, but reading threads this could be absolutely anything from faulty brake switch to abs unit

Had abs sign months ago then nothing, have noticed a very faint light on a few of the cluster warning signs though
 
The story so far
Followed recovery wagon 5km into town, they plugged a diagnostic machine in cancelled the error reading taking it out of limp mode, we then took it for a test drive and everything seems fine again, apart from my wallets €90 Euro lighter and I don’t think they’ve fixed the problem, struggled with the lack of my French and his non existent English, but what I got a grasp of was he thought it was my starter battery and all would be fine no charged, I’m definitely not convinced.
So I’m now here in Switzerland thinking will the same be happening in two days and I’m another wad of cash out of pocket, I hate electric gremlins:devil:

Yes we were in Austria last October heading home, engine warning light came on. Got home and took it to Garage they did the same as yours plugged it in and reset it. On the start of the next trip it came back on. We are returning to uk 29th of May, get off the channel tunnel at 6:20 am, booked into Cartronix for 9:30. From this forum they seem to be the experts in this field.

Well the saga continues, as I thought they reset and it’s back on again, and it’s back to reduced performance, we are now in Switzerland at the weekend so won’t expect anything happening until Monday. I also expect they will reset and tell me it’s sorted, not sure what’s the way to go with this, can’t see it being an easy fix over here.:crying1::crying1::crying1:
 
Well it continues, phones recovery yesterday, nothing really can be done until Monday sir, fair enough we’re here until Monday, started her up again fault gone :mad: I’ve checked for loose connections, earth leads etc nothing.
Reading up on it it sounds like it’s the abs pump that is intermittently failing and throwing error messages and giving reduced performance, they can repair them in England for £200, though I imagine it will be a new one required sir here in Switzerland, one forum has thrown up a price of £1200:whatthe: really Fiat!!
This is really starting to p** me off, error message back this morning:swear::banghead::banghead::swear::banghead:

Well it’s off to be looked at by fiat dealer, I’ve a reasonable idea what it is doing some research, next question is, how much?
At least we have decent accommodation with the two dogs at la peches in Switzerland, let’s see what tomorrow brings:think:

Yep I’ve shown the mechanic who turned up today the exact same website translated into French, he had a fault checker but said it wouldn’t reset and needed to tow it away, I think the fiat dealership will know exactly the problem with it and will try and hit me with the fiat price, I’ve already spoken with the breakdown cover company regarding getting it shipped back to England, but it’s still not a given, and they have me by the short and curleys at the moment.

I took my Motorhome to an Independent Garage and they diagnosed a possible Speed Sensor problem (No charge) but suggested I get at least one more opinion.

I then went to an independent Fiat Dealer who diagnosed either Speed Sensor or ABS Unit Module (£25 for diagnostic check) – they weren't sure which.

And then to Sheepbridge Commercial Vehicle HGV/LGV test and repair centre in Chesterfield who checked the Speed Sensors and found no fault with them (No charge).

The ABS Unit Module was then considered the 'villain' and prices to replace the unit were collected by Sheepbridge Commercial Vehicle Centre.

A local Motor Factor quoted £1,400 and other online quotes were not much better, and some worse.

It was decided to have the unit tested and repaired, if possible, for considerably less than the quotes we obtained.

The unit was taken to ECUTESTING, Delves Road, Heanor – about 25 miles away – and I delivered it at about 3pm.

They kept me up-to-date of the progress of the unit at their Workshops during the next day and I received four text and email messages about its progress.

The last text and email indicated they had successfully completed the repair and I could pick the unit up after 4 pm that day – which I did.

A total of around 24 hours from delivery to collection is an extremely good service and their communication skills with the Customer puts most firms to shame..

The charge for the testing and repair was £185 + vat - £222 in total and came with a Lifetime Warranty.

The unit has been fitted this afternoon by Sheepbridge Commercials, the dash now works as it should and the problem has been solved.

Sheepbridge Commercial have not only made an excellent job of sorting out the problem but have even washed down my Motorhome – many thanks to them.

Hope this helps others who may have the same, or similar problems, with their Ducato based Motorhomes.
 
I had the same apparent fault a few years ago on my 2008 plate Ducato. It took an Auto Electrician called in by Fiat 3 hours to find and rectify the fault, an ABS sensor wire rubbing behind the nearside head lamp.
 
Tacr2man, there are so many variables to what could create this problem, the problem I have is
I’m in Switzerland, they either speak French or German in this area, neither which my schoolboy languages are any good a describing technical issues, I am then trying to liaise with garage personnel (no English)and the recovery company (who speak English) I have informed them of this company back in England and what they charge and they have said they will consider shipping the m home back if it is more cost efficient, we then have the logistics of all our kit, in the static caravan two dogs and getting everything back across the channel bit of a headaches considering this is supposed to be a holiday.
By the way not having a pop just trying to keep the misses happy dogs entertained and hoping that fiat don’t do what they normally do, put a stupid quote together as it’s someone stranded in a foreign country:Eeek:
 
Well it’s possibility, would probably need to remove from the fiat dealers as they won’t fit second hand parts, brake system requires bleeding so I believe (y)
 
A really unsettling experience for you all, I hope it all gets sorted soon at a fair price.

Unfortunately looking at options to get home is very limited, yes they will recover back home, unless it costs more than the value of the m home,
Next option how do me the wife and two dogs get back?
Train to Geneva then to Paris, Euro star won’t take dogs, so ferry will be Brittany (take dogs) but only one pet per cabin!! We have two springers, the logistics for trains hire cars etc to get back home probably will not fall to short of that cost, and I will be putting in a goodwill claim against fiat as this is a known fault, the burstner club have had at least half,some full re imbersment of the bill, still bleeding well sticks in the throat though
These things were sent to try us as this certainly is

It seems they all have different ideas of what the insurance policy means, very helpfull guy, has said they will provide a vehicle to get back across the Chunnel as they have an agent in Calais that allows vehicles over to destination in England with dogs.
 
I'm not an expert but did everything work when it was reset? If it did then how can a unit be broke. If the ABS unit is broke why don't you reset everything again and see if it works that would suggest something else. I only know what I've read on this forum and you did say that the dashboard or cluster panel light had dimmed in the past. Again from what I've read that seems to be the beginning of the dreaded Cluster problem. I'm driving around Spain at moment with all kinds of warning lights coming on but fortunately I can for some reason get them to go off if I delay the starting of the engine. When the lights are on the hill start doesn't work and neither does the ABS but when I get them to go off everything works. If you have it reset can you not just go for it and get to the port before the problem returns. My lights don't come back on when i'm travelling only when I turn the engine off. Sorry if all of this is unrelated to your problem but just trying to save you all of that money,

The vehicle is at a fiat professional garage in Biel Bienne about 20 km from us, the recovery mechanic tried resetting but the lights just appeared again, we’re holed up on the campsite in a static at the minute trying to work out all the scenarios to get a satisfactory outcome, we were at the point this morning of just telling them to get on with it, suck it up and try a enjoy the rest of the holiday.
It was only this morning that the insurance guy offered a lot more options to get us home and repatriate the van as long as it doesn’t exceed £5000, so the next question may be where in the north west near Cumbria gives a fantastic service to help me rebuild my confidence in fiat?
I think we will get a full service also and it’s due as a habitation check, so any recommendations welcome.
