Ok another question for you please.

Looking at all the completed listings of what MH have or they have not sold for, do you think that the ones that have many bids on them that the people bidding have actually viewed the MH or do they just take a punt and hope the advert is a true reflection of the MH.

When they say it is water tight and 100% everything working etc, are people believing this and bid or buy or are they lucky enough that the MH is near them and can view it first.

Theres a lovely Hymer with a cab on for under 7k which is lovely

If I was looking now, i'd love this one, the write up is glowing and I would believe it as it sounds very genuine, would I be foolish to believe it

:mm::mm:

MOT status says 1990 and tax status says 2006.

I think you are looking at a different section of the GOV.UK that vehicle could not have had an mot in1990 as it wasn't registered until 2006 .I do not wish to discuss this any more as no one will buy this vehicle its done more miles than the space shuttle .:)

Just to make those aware who don't know, if you buy a vehicle on Ebay in an auction or 'buy it now' you do NOT have to complete the purchase - it is outside the usual Ebay rules for having to do so.

We bought unseen:
  • my pink Smart car (aka Perky/The Flying Plum!) was bought unseen off Ebay, although we'd seen Smarts before we'd never driven one and I had to drive him home! I loved him to bits and never regretted buying him for a good price and selling him a couple of years later for a good price.
  • the Black Smart car we had (Sluggy) came off Ebay but it had a full Merc service history and lots of photos and we were able to chat to the owner before bidding.
Obviously if we hadn't been happy with them we wouldn't have completed the purchases.

I have bought off eBay 3 motorcycles and 2 Smart cars unseen - all successful and accurately described purchases. I live in Cumbria. One purchase was delivered from Campbeltown to Hamilton for me and four of the purchases were made South of London making pre-viewing impossibly expensive. I drove / rode three of them home. In each case I tried to get a sense of the seller using multiple emails and, for one of them, a phone conversation. I believe that it is more important to develop a feel for the person you're dealing with than the item they're selling. And, as Minxy says, you don't have to go through with the purchase if the vehicle is inaccurately or inadequately described.

It does actually state on the advert that it’s 1990...

More questions:

What does engine size "3" mean? Is it a turbo or normally aspirated 2.5D?

Does it have PAS? I think that on Ducatos of this age it was an option. An expensive retrofit. The gearchange might be a lucky dip type, but again there is a retrofit cure.

Even though it is a Hymer and plenty seems to have been spent on it, the seller should not expect to recoup all his extra outlay, because costly repairs and replacements are a fact of life when a MH gets this old.

I've sold 4 cars on eBay, been totally honest about good and bad points and sold all of them with no contact, apart from ' have you got a buy it now price'.

All buyers very happy with the cars and only one of them got in touch afterwards, every year it passed its mot I got a thumbs up email .

I once put a small car in classified ads. Got an enquiry and the more I slated the quality of the vehicle, the more the buyer seemed to want it. I pointed out, for example, that overtaking was only an option after making an appointment, since I didn't want any come-back after the sale due to lack of acceleration. It was economical, however. The buyer came, saw, and paid the asking price.

Years ago I bought a MH on eBay £25 k without viewing it and paying cash on collection knowing if it was not as described I would walk away .

I have just sold a vehicle on eBay and the person never saw it or me and put £8k in my bank account as a holding deposit the next day . He then collected the vehicle a week later and paid cash on collection .

Some are very trusting .

Wow thank you all, it is odd but looks like they've spent money on it, but I would be wary and ask for an a inspection.

But obviously you never know.

Cheers jakki

the current owners may well believe that the van is ok-but taking
into account the advice on here and having read the Mot history,
it looks like buying work!
i would save your inspection money for the next time!
if you have bought a bad one -all you can do is throw more money at it- good luck
