Only place I've had an accident is rear-ended in, yup, Belgium. My advanced bike instructor warned against belgians a decade or two ago - we actively avoid Belgium where possible.
Unlike others, I think the van held up well. Yes, damaged but seemed to absorb and fall apart which took out energy - better than I'd have expected. Though TBH I've only considered the van coming to a sudden stop (me hitting something) rather than being slow and being hit - different g forces involved. Could've been a lot worse - the damage probably reduced the g force to the cab.
Really nasty and hope you guys are OK and recover OK.
