E-Bikes: Cube Kathmandu Hybrid Bike

Looks a smart bike !!! We ordered ours 3 weeks ago and was told they would be available at the beginning of October, at the earliest.

While I ours were having the latest software upgrade at the e-bikeshop.co.uk they were unpackaging and building 2021 model Cubes.

Hi,

Having decided on hopefully getting a Cube Kathmandu Step Through/Easy Entry 2021 625 E-Bike, trying to find one in stock is proving a challenge! There's a Cube stockist in Durham and although they didn't have a Step Through in stock, I was able to try the Size 50 in the trapeze frame for size which it turns out is the correct frame size for me.

My preference would be for the PRO model, but I'd be happy with the EXC or SL models.

So now I just need to be patient for them to come into stock 🤞. I've spoken to several different Cube Stockists who report they should be in stock in October, and I have put my name down to be notified when they're in stock.

I've read recommendations on MotorhomeFun for Rutland Cycles, but would appreciate any other recommendations for alternative stockists. I'd be happy to put a deposit down if necessary - Rutland aren't taking pre-orders, just email addresses.

Yep. Tried a few times to spend many thousands on a Cube, but no luck, and apparently they can’t order for me 😤😤😤

Good evening gents, I ordered a Cube Kathmandu Hybrid pro 625 from Leisure Lakes, Bury about 5 weeks ago. I was told it would be about the middle of October when it would arrive. However, it arrived last week and is a great bike. Highly recommended.
It would be worth giving them a try and them have them on their website. The 500 was in stock last time I looked ( the only difference between the 625 and 500 is the battery and about £400.00!!!)
Good luck

Hi Landy Andy! Thanks for your reply! It certainly seems as though the Cube E-bikes are really sought after, especially at the moment. I hope you are able to find the bike in stock that you’re looking for!🤞

Hi Crossy! Thanks for your reply, and great news you’ve taken delivery of your new E-bike - and of course that you’re pleased with it! 😊

I’ll give Leisure Lakes Bikers a call in the morning to see if they’re going to get any of the Step Through models into stock, and I’Il report back. 👍

Excellent, they never answer the bloody phone so good luck. oh can look and order on line. Apply hunting

My understanding is that Cube are pushed at the moment so are just doing what is needed to fill the basic orders from their dealers. So it’s a case of finding someone who has preordered what you want, and hasn’t sold it. I’m after a certain bike, and in XL, and that appears to be a problem. But it doesn’t really matter, it’s only a want. Hope you get sorted soon 👍🏻

We purchased our 2020 model Kathmandu 625 Pro,s before Christmas 2019 my standard trapeze frame was in stock, but Tracy's step through did not turn up until 1 week before lockdown in March, they were having trouble keeping up with demand then.

Just for info I seem to be getting about 80 miles per charge from my 500 and even then its not dead. So far well chuffed with it and cycling is now a pleasure again, I try to keep in ECO mode until the hills so still getting some exercise. Recently in Germany the German barman was complimenting me on the bike and said it would be about €3,500 there but never checked if he was right...

Hi Crossy! I found a customer service number on their website which was answered promptly, but unfortunately they are not getting more of the Kathmandu 625 EE50 in until March. Thanks though for the recommendation, and I hope you enjoy getting out on your new bike (I'm very envious!!). :giggle:

Hi Landy Andy! Thanks for your reply, I did some more phoning around yesterday, but still no luck - I'll just have to be patient - not something I'm very good at!! 🚴‍♀️ Wouldn't it be great if all the stockists linked into one system so you could check the UK for bikes in stock in one go - I guess it won't be far off. ⏱ Thanks again! :giggle:

Hi Steve N Tracy! Thanks for your reply! One of the local stockists I spoke to yesterday found that he could order for immediate delivery from Cube, a Kathmandu 625 Model 45, but only in the Trapeze frame. If it had been the Step Through then I'd have probably gone for it, but it's not quite what I wanted. The Model 45 is quite a lot more expensive than the Pro / SL / EXC models and probably overkill for what I'm wanting the bike for. He also said that I should look at the Cube Touring bike. Did you look at the Touring model when you bought your K's please - and if so how did they compare? I'm loathed to change direction now because I've sat on a Kathmandu Size 50 and it felt very comfortable. I'll mainly be using the bike on the roads/lanes but also some "Sustrans" bike paths near here, so no real rough surface off-roading. 🚴‍♀️

Hi MichaelT!

Thanks for your reply - now you're making me really envious! I'm going out on my Volt Metro later and am just trying to work out a new route within the battery's 25 mile range (it's fairly old!). Can't wait to get my new bike - I just have to be patient..... 🤞🚵‍♀️

What a shame !! To be honest the 500 is exactly the same bike for less money (£400 I think) and I don’t think I would do 50 miles on the 500 Let alone 70 with the 625 !! ) the 500 is available I think ? Thanks for the update though. Hope you get sorted soon

Hi we just went for the Kathmandu 625 Pro because of the powerful motor and the biggest battery, and I liked the idea of the rack being part of the frame, which ruled out the touring, just looked at the 45 model its not classed as a E-bike as it needs registering and plating so I guess illegal to use on bike paths?

Hi Steve N Tracy! Thanks so much for your reply, blimey that could have been an expensive mistake!! I hadn't spotted that the Model 45 would have to be registered - and the Chap I spoke to said it would just be an alternative to the Pro model, so it didn't occur to me - but no, that's definitely not what I am looking for!

One of the bike shops I visited sells Riese & Muller e-bikes which are lovely and they had a special order e-bike nearly ready to go to the customer - they were just waiting for the plate from DVLA. The owner was going to have to wear a motorbike helmet - it could go up to around 30 mph so was effectively coated as a moped! He was going to use it to commute to work! 🏍️

Also, I agree ref the integrated rack on the Kathmandu, it's a great design. Thanks very much for your reply! I think I'll stick with my original plan - and I must be patient.... I must be patient.... I must be patient...... :giggle:

My Cube Kathmandu Hybrid One 500 arrived yesterday and it hasn't stopped raining since. Consequently I've not got beyond our back Lane and can't quote its range but I'm sure it'll outlast my ambition to cycle across the county.

That's why I happily kept a few hundred pounds in my pocket compared to the higher spec versions, thinking I'd rather spend my cash elsewhere than save a few grams on a different brake caliper etc etc. or range I dont need. Another bonus for me is the lower spec bike has a simpler to operate and understand control panel. I've learned over time that sometimes less is more.

Incidentally Rutland Cycles offer £100 discount to buyers I introduce. I get a£100 voucher too. Just saying. 😙

You won't be disappointed once you can ride it, I love mine and really struggle now on my old manual bike. Out of interest what charger did they give you 2 or 4 amp? I got a travel 2 amp with mine so wondering if thats the norm?

I got the 2A also. It's a shame because I envisage issues getting a full recharge in a reasonable timescale. Even my 'small' battery will require i.r.o. 7 hours from empty to full. I wish I'd been given a choice to pay the difference to get the more powerful version.

I got 2A also. Shame you can't pay the difference to get the more powerful version.
Mrs T has a 4amp one for her Cube Town so can use that but TBH they both seem to take an age to charge anyway.

In all fairness I should mention anyone paying less than RRP also lose the retailer's 30 day no quibble exchange option. Cheeky not to make that clear in their marketing blurb, but that's life.

My Son tested a Cube reaction hybrid pro 500 at Rutland Cycles. He loved it and wanted the 625 XL in Blue. You can't have blue he was told until March in fact you can't have any until late November. I tried every stockist of cube and got the same answer. I went the same way that I got my Scott bike via Germany. Contacted a German retailer who had it in stock and would deliver to the UK (some wont) bike arrived 5 days after order and my Son has been smiling ever since.

Well, I finally got myself a new Cube Kathmandu e-bike! 😊 I’m really delighted with it and have just been out for a quick ride, but I was enjoying it so much that I ended doing 30 miles around Hadrian’s Wall country - and apparently I’ve still got enough battery for another 30 miles!

It seems like a really massive bike compared to my old folding Volt Metro with 20” wheels, but I guess it’s difficult to compare!

I bought it from Wheelbase in the Lake District, and they had a huge selection of e-bikes, and I found the whole team there to be really friendly and helpful. In the end I went for the 2021 Kathmandu Pro 625 EE. I didn‘t have a choice on colour but quite like the Saturn Grey which has a matte finish.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who really kindly offered advice on this thread, its much appreciated and I’m so pleased now to have my new ebike! 😊

Very nice. Hope you enjoy the mile munching. 👍

Hi Crossy, Sorry for such a late reply but thanks for your reply! All was going really well with the new bike until I had two hawthorn punctures this morning - front and rear! I’ve posted on the “punctures” thread, asking for suggestions on better tyres for the bike. Apart from that I’m really pleased with it and it takes even the steepest hills in its stride! 😊
