Just seen this on msn:

UK tourists travelling to popular European Union destinations could be significantly affected by new driving law changes.

As of last week, drivers will need additional documents when travelling to Europe due to alterations in green card requirements. Those operating vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating above 3.5 tonnes on international trips will need a variety of licences and permits. Road users must possess a vehicle operator licence to transport their own goods, both domestically and internationally.

I have not heard of this and assume it is not true??

All the gear, and no idea!
I would think it’s only for goods vehicles, ie carrying goods. Although a moho over 3.5t is technically a private heavy goods vehicle it’s NOT in the same category as a goods vehicle

Would tend to agree ,much as goods vehicles over 3.5t are excluded from some town centres but heavy motorhomes are allowed.

Lazy journalism. The mention of the term "green card" was only referring to USA, not Europe. And even then that term is now not used for long stayers in the USA.

In reality these rules only cover HGVs that are carrying commercial goods and that does not apply to motorhomes.

It says,

Whether you require a permit or not hinges on the size of your vehicle and the type of goods you're transporting. In some of the nine countries, a permit is necessary if your vehicle is solely used for your own business purposes, and not for hire or reward (often referred to as 'own account traffic').

“business purposes”? Not leisure?

Nope.
If you click on the blue 'MSN' letters in his post you'll see it's a link to a news feed of an article in the Daily Mirror.

The article it references is staggeringly inept. It includes at least three unrelated aspects of European travel. The changes it should refer to are about transporting goods for hire or reward where a new permit process has been introduced. It applies only to goods carried for hire and reward, requires an operators licence and a transport manager and has got absolutely sod all to do with tourists! The european 'Green Card' issue is a completely separate and unrelated one which has been on and off the agenda ever since we left the EU.
