DVLA stress test!

One of the best ways to prepare is to walk up and down your stairs at home (unless you live in a bungalow) no to rush just steady up and down trying to increase the rate by one a day or every other day. Your fitness will improve gradually without putting pressure on your self.

I now manage 5k in just under 40 mins on the flat treadmill, ten years ago I was fitter but did struggle taking one of theses tests as they increased the incline it made me really sweat. I was able to steady myself on the bar, last thing they want is someone breaking a leg. Good luck.

Finally! Checked my licence status today and it’s showing as licence renewed (with C1) from today, 6 months after the D4 reached DVLA. Just got to wait for the actual licence now. But they did have one final query on 7 July, which people may need to be aware of.

On the Vision Assessment form, they said the optician hadn't answered q2(d), which asks “If glasses are worn for driving, is the corrective power greater than plus (+)8 dioptres in any meridian of either lens?” with a Y/N answer. As I wear contact lenses for driving (& the previous question had asked "What kind of corrective lenses are worn to meet this standard?”,options being glasses, contact lenses or both) it would seem logical that 2(d) did not apply. But apparently in 2(d) "glasses" includes contacts, as a generic term! So it was back to the opticians! Once I've received my new licence I will be writing to suggest a rewording of the question, but in the meantime it may help people completing a D4 to be aware of the issue.

Hope AngieP(the OP)'s husband, has finally got sorted - but I'm certainly not going through all this again, not least because my next reapplication in 3 years would be not long before my wife would need to reapply, and she's made it very clear she's not going to go through all of this!

Really pleased that you have, finally, got your licence. We are still struggling to get an appointment for husband to do the test! D4 was submitted in Jan. A lady from the DVLA medical department contacted us yesterday ( I felt like saying I need to put you on hold so you can listen to the full version of Vivaldi's Four Seasons before we can talk to you, but I didnt !). Lovely Welsh lady who said she would give the consultant's secretary "a little tinkle" to see if they could push it along.
On the plus side hubby is now quite confident that he can complete the test should be ever be given one. The lady did at least confirm that if he passed he would get a three year licence from the date new one was issued. We live in hope!

:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:
Wish I had done some research on this prior to taking the test.
Applied for C1 Jan 28th and after months of the DVLA writing to doctors and cosultant's received a letter on Nov 29th for the treadmill test (stent 3 years ago) I had no idea what it involved and didn't do any research. Big mistake, looks like this whole sorry saga will go on for another couple of months at least. :banghead::banghead:

Hope I never have to do it as I am allergic to the ECG stickers and would have to hop as my right foot no longer works properly.

Can you use crutches or a wheelchair to do the test? lol

Its easy to get stressed out worrying about the test. I had to take it last year and even though I am fit despite having irregular heart rate, it was harder than I expected but the main bugbear for me is I am an outdoor person and doing the test in an office size room in August I was already warm and the electodes kept coming off(due to sweat) despite them putting the aircon on. The advice I would offer is train for an all round general fitness ie cycle and walk and run if possible. Look at the 7minute workout with Lucy on utube as it is low impact, my wife does a workout with Ricky on the same utube. Its a mind over matter type thing but be positive and you will succeed. It took 8 months due to the DVLA being so slow to finally get my C1. 2 years time I may have to take it again.

I found it easier to do the treadmill test whilst listening to some music ,so you could sing along in your head as it were. Helped the time go quicker and also helped the faster paces required towards the end of the test. ( had 1 earphone in so I could slso hear the yechnician etc.)

I am sure there was a thread about this recently on Fun where it said there was an alternative to the treadmill in the form of an injection given and the results monitored??

Edit... see #3 on https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/foru...-the-dvla-treadmill-test.262323/#post-5029929
I had an injection instead of a treadmill. No option as it was nothing to do with my licence. It was a very strange thing and quite longwinded, nearly half a day. For a few minutes the weirdest frightening feeling. I had it at the Nuclear Medicine Dept at the LGI.

I've been reading this thread for a while but one thing I'm actually struggling with is:
So DVLA have us wrinklies charging up hills at a stupid speed to prove what exactly.?
Its not as if we go for whole body workouts when bimbling in Lane one.

Box ticking to cover themselves if you fall dead at the wheel and kill someone🙁 I think they tightened up after the Glasgow bin lorry crash.

If your bored, 🙂

Ordinarily I would tick the "Thanks" box but in this case I'd like to go one better and give you a 'proper' thanks. Enlightening.

One aims to please :xsmile:

I think the main gripe people have is that the 'staff' in the medical section of the DVLA who make the decisions are box tickers with no medical knowledge 😡

After a lot of careful consideration, I renewed without C1 entitlement. This rules out upgrading to a MH over 3.5T for the foreseeable future, unless SWMBO who still has her C1 rights agrees to be the driver, which she won't.

I could not have managed the treadmill test, after getting Covid again in July and the return of Long Covid. Recently I found I can walk uphill again without stopping, but only somewhat slowly. Long way still to go with my exercise rehab programme. Onwards and upwards (but only on gentle inclines) ... :whistle2:

I failed the treadmill test!

Then DVLA suggested I take a Echocardiogram. After about 30 minutes I was classed as having no problems. The test was that they put different types of drugs into me via my arm to make the heart race as fast it could. . By the I ever felt in thing.

Colyboy

ps The DVLA had my license from last January. The best Christmas present was my new C1 arriving just before Christmas.
