DVLA Inside exposure

Are you still galivanting across the world then David, or are we doing Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Hangouts, Skype, or Facebook Live these days?

Oops sorry, we've already done that one to death, haven't we. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. ;)
Nope, retired now. Decided that I could do without all the “unnecessary” travel every week to win big contracts for my employers :rofl::rofl:

Still do consultancy for ex clients but winding that down as well as much as possible

Not Firefighting obviously, but I've gone back on the road for 2 x days a week, but only when they are busy. I'm loving it TBH. ;)

That John Ruffles (RIP) TA JR Consultancy, went on working to a ripe old age.

Hope to see you on a Meet or Rally soon. :)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Same here 👍 my shout (not that sort…….)

I give up. Go and see Exxon and tell them they are doing it wrong.
Interesting, I never said Exxon have it wrong if you go back to when you were 20 the systems Exxon had no longer exit neither do many of the business process's its just change and process's change. Exxon and others will have used consultants to help streamline the business, the sophisticated IT they have will change as the business will it is inevitable. and whilst VR will not all be Meta they do give an example of how future meetings and collaboration can be so for a 20 year old today by the time they retire meetings may all be Virtual and Exxon may just trade in renewables not oil and that will mean totally different trading and business processes.

I can't understand why dvla can't access their systems from home. I used to be able to securely access NHS systems from home 12years ago when still working.

you are very selective in what you pick out. I also said that most companies regard face to face meetings as a necessary evil and they want to avoid them if possible.

what you say may well be the future and also the present in your fancy wiz bang business which sounds like operational stuff to me and therefore not at all relevant to what I did. FYI, big oil usually maintain three trading desks in say, Brussels or London, Singapore and Houston. That trading desk is handed over seamlessly during the time zones Exactly as you describe.

I’ve had enough of this anyway; you simply do not understand how huge contracts work outside your metaverse or whatever Lord Zuckerberg calls it this week.

we will agree to disagree, but it has nothing to do with poor DVLA management and skiving workers. Case closed

I renewed my driving licence within about 10 days without any problems. Did it all online and without any issues, same as transferring my personal plate which was same day - dealer did it whilst I watched. It is an automated system though
Never has been any problems with stuff that is mostly automated, you didn't need to keep your C1 if you had it would have been a different story.

When you look at the empty floor in that video they could have easily had 50 people in there working safely. From memory I think they have 3 buildings 2 with 3 floors one with 2, around 150 desks on each floor. If all the buildings are empty like that how the hell are they ever going to catch up with the thousands of paper aplications

I have that dubious pleasure of dealing with “computer says no” jobsworths in a couple of years time

Remote access is surely just simple two factor authorisation.
I work for the electricity board and two years ago when they said, take your laptop and monitors home, that’s what we all did and everyones access was sorted straight away and that was 1000s of employees.

DVLA are just another typical government body that can’t function.

Based on my experience with these clowns, the management is being run around because it is incompetent. Here is a February letter full of misleading claptrap from the DVLA "CEO" to the Transport Select Committee Broken Link Removed. Note that it has her email address and phone number on it which some may find useful...... There is a destructive culture at DVLA. The concepts of 'customers' and even public service are missing. I now have an expired licence due to DVLA deliberately causing delays and requesting reports and tests which are not required. I can neither rent a vehicle (Section 88 not accepted for that) nor drive abroad.

My advice to anyone is never to declare a medical condition unless specifically told to by a GP or optician, or if specifically told not to drive by them. If you "do the right thing" and declare something because you think it might be an issue or might just fit a DVLA criteria then it will come back to haunt you at renewal because these dreadful people will then wreck your life. The Times articles did report that DVLA stated that the "medical department" had been particularly affected by strikes last year. They are "medical managers" not medically qualified people. It will not change after the pandemic is over either. DVLA is a throwback to the sixties, it should be broken up and moved away from Swansea to multiple sites elsewhere.

My 88 year old neighbour has medical issues and after spending hours online trying to renew his licence and getting nowhere with the Post Office and that other ID firm I sent the forms through the post. He had licence back within a month. Probably the envelope got put in the pile just before they emptied the in tray.

Scrap the set up and bring back local offices much better than this lot ,used go in with paper work and bang all done no problem

Letter from the woman "in charge" of the DVLA to Transport Select Committee Feb 2022 (Broken Link Removed)

"In the absence of further restrictions and no industrial action, I hope to be in a position of having recovered vehicles paper application services by the end of this month, drivers paper-based services by the end of May with the more complex drivers medical services returning to prepandemic levels by September."

By September? Dream on Ms Lennard. And in any case if "prepandemic levels" of turnaround is the target then that does not give one much hope anyway.

In part your right but simple security can open cyber security issues, hopefully it was a little more sophisticated in that a vpn was also involved and only the employee could use the computer otherwise it does open up security issues. But your spot on in that it’s not difficult for an organisations IT department to deploy assuming the budget is available to do so.

Yes, we use a VPN and two factor authorisation.
It was all sorted pretty much straight away, for everyone.

In the past I have had medical problems dealt with by the DVLA more eficiently than I could have expected. Yesterday I posted my D2/D4 forms which I will need for late May, from the above I do sense a degree of uncertainty :Eeek:

I must just say that I’ve received my new license which came in the post Saturday with the C1 entitlement in place. This is my first application as just about to hit 70 on Friday and really dreaded this as I’ve seen so many reports on here regarding this matter before covid and since.
The form was relatively easy to fill in. Medical done with D4Drivers which I’m really grateful for the several recommendations which is the great reason for being on Fun. I posted my application and was signed for by DVLA on 31/12/2021 so I’ve not really had to wait a massive amount of time. I fully appreciate that some have had real problems especially in regard to medical issues and yes I had started to panic because of what I’ve read. Just thought I’d share with others about to go through the process that I’m sure they are now getting to grips with their issues.

The Chair of the Transport Select Committee wrote to the "CEO" of DVLA on 8 March. Broken Link Removed
He asked the right questions, He asked for a reply by 18 March. That means, because she is a jobsworth on £185k per year and looking forward to her severance pay, that the answers prepared by her apparatchiks should appear very shortly. Because although it takes months for the licenses of us peasants to be issued, they will jump to it if they get questions from parliament. The email address of the Transport Select Committee, which clearly needs evidence, is TRANSCOM@parliament.uk.
