Since 2008 & many years tugging
But they normally get the MAM wrong they often change the Revenue weight but don't bother to change the MAM and the to get it corrected it takes weeks if not months.

Long time
Once upon a time, many years ago…….
We changed the weight of our Hymer-purely a paper exercise!
1st strike-Took all the paperwork & ‘log’ to N’pton Taxation Office…..closed.
2nd strike-Automatic doors wouldn’t open, so closed.
3rd strike-got in…yay, didn’t last long. Staff refused to tax Hymer as they thought the weight physically had changed, it needed weighing and authorising!
Argued that the physical weight hadn’t changed just a paperwork change, they wouldn’t have it and as we were imminent to going away I just taxed it on the old weight.
About a month later we got a letter explaining that we had taxed the vehicle wrongly on the old weight and a cheque refund for the extra paid!
They are all as bad as each other!

Worth noting that the Section 1 form on the V5C only covers a limited number of changes which includes the ‘Revenue weight’ but does not include the ‘Max. permissible mass’. If you want to change the second figure as well the online advice is:
“If the change is not listed in section 1 or 7, add notes to the ‘vehicle details’ section instead. Send it to DVLA with evidence and a letter explaining the change.”

Our documents went to the DVLA 'Special Delivery' on the 18th May, just hoping that they will be back before we go into Europe on the 17th June.

All the up-plating documents were done by Van Weight Engineering who I cannot praise enough for their service. I already have the new weight plate from VWE so just waiting for the DVLA to accept and then refund some money!

I'm a newbie
Just got back off holiday to find a letter from DVLA and separately a new V5c.

Firstly they say cannot change Taxation Class to PHGV due to it being M1.

V5c shows the following :-

Taxation Class: PLG

Revenue Weight 3500KG gross

Max. permissible mass 3850

Mass in service 3500

Clearly not right, just wondering what other peoples experiences are.

Will speak to SVTech in the morning (after dealing with cardiology dept about appointment, they've not sent any info and I'm about to do a lot of welding after I have an ILR fitted).

Anybody recently uplated ? How long do DVLA normally take after sending in filled in paperwork ?

Which ‘paperwork’ did you submit along with the completed V5C?

What are the vehicle details/specification that you are looking to up plate? Did it include an engineers report?

Amended section 7 of V5c, V70 & engineers report (from SVTech)

Revenue weight to 3850KG from 3500KG and tax class to PHGV as vehicle now plated weight exceeds 3500KG. Yes.

I think you were unlucky and the person who dealt with it didn't have a clue. Makes a change from their usual trick of changing the revenue weight & Le ving the MAM unchanged.
