Ducato Ad Blue usage

We get on average 1200 miles per 5 litres. 2020 ducato camper van ( auto). This is the average over 4 years and about 30,000 miles. We just put 5 litres in every time the warning comes on on the dash. Hope this helps

When my warning comes up it takes 10 - 12 Lt.

We go by the handbook. Which says put 5 litres in when warning comes on. It may take more, never tried. Once overfilled my jaguar f pace with ad blue and it messed up the electronic gauge ,cost a lot to get it reset by Jag Dealer. Didn't want the same issue with the Fiat, although it may not be the same and you may well be able to fill it up with 10 litres, It's not a lot of effort to fill it every 1200 miles. So I keep to the handbook recommendation.

Does anyone have details of their Ad Blue usage for a year old Ducato? eg what mileage might I expect for 10 litres?

I know it depends on many things, including driving style, but any details would be useful.

And does anyone know the tank size? The manual is less than useless.
When did Ducato’s start using Ad Blue 🙏 Our 2018 Hymer doesn’t require Ad Blue 😅

Fiat had to adopt AdBlue from September 2019 when new tests were introduced exposing weaknesses in the earlier models. The Euro 6 requirements didn’t change, just the tests. There were quite a few vehicles already in the system in 2019 so new registrations of non AdBlue vehicles continued for a year or so.

OK if you can find a pump, found them rare in France & Spain.
None around where we live, all the garages are listed on the apps as having a pump and when you get there, no pump just containers stored outside in sunlight.

Believe manual says 19 litres , cannot remember exact usage but seem to remember light came on after about 3000 kms ?

2500 kms or there abouts, Tank is 19ltr, when Light comes on, add 10ltr....18,000km in last 13 months in mine , usage has been consistent in that time

I have a 2022 Fiat Ducato that uses AdBlue to meet Euro 6.
Just had my first (2 year) service. I queried the AdBlue usage as I have never seen the Guage (in the menu on dash) move from 100% Full.
I have topped up due to the above and despite the Camper now on 15k miles I doubt I even used 10 litres. I was concerned the actual Guage was not working. I was told by the Fiat Professional Dealer (Adams Morey) that it was all ok. They plugged the service computer in it and could actually tell me how many times I'd topped up.
So the tank is 17litres. The Fiat Dealer advised that only top up now when the message ad AdBlue shows on the dash. Also they said then put at least 5 litres in.
We have done over 1000 miles since service, and it is still showing 100% full!
I am not going to add any as instructed. If it runs out and breaks down then Fiat will have to sort it as its all recorded on the Fiat Service System.
I reckon you can probably get 1.5k miles per litre.
I drive a 44 ton truck and the AdBlue tank on that is about 100 litres, if I drive from the South to Leeds and back fully loaded it would not move from full and that is in a 12000cc Engine!
That sounds like a negatable amount of consumption - Whereas other people are reporting figures that I calculate to be equivalent to about five pence a liter extra on the price of diesel, which is a lot.

Could you be driving differently (though I can't see how that would make a lot of difference) or is this because it's newer vehicle or other people's tanks are leaking?

My Ducato diesel is a 2010 model so I'm not directly affected yet but I'm interested to know for the future ..

New, for me Ford (Chausson), have not found a meter to advise ad blue level in tank, is there one?
Get the Ford Pass app.

This includes indication of adblue level (& predicted mileage) as well as other useful functions such as remote locking/unlocking

Your usage sounds incredible.

If you read the previous posts from Ducato owners it appears that the average is anywhere between 120 to 250 miles per litre. My own averages between 120 to 150 miles per litre, towards the lower end of the scale. 2021 Ducato 2.3ltr, @29,000 miles.

I suspect that, with a usage rate of one litre per 1,500 miles, if you put your engine up for sale in the Classifed Ads section of the Forum, you would be fighting off offers.😉
I'm just relaying what the Dealer said at the Service. As I've reported the Gauge on the display has never moved off 100% since I bought it brand new. With a 4k mile trip around Italy in July I only recall buying a 5litre bottle of Adblue once from a filling station at a motorway services. It's only a tiny amount that is sprayed into the engine to reduce the nox. If you are getting through a lot of adblue then maybe get it checked. Fiat will plug in the Service Tool and can tell you the consumption etc..

When they had to meet Euro 6 emissions. If you don't meet Euro 6 which means Adblue, you may find you cannot take your MH into or around some EU towns and Cities!

I started noting this on my 21 Burstner / Ducato as I felt I was going through a lot of Ad Blue.

It’s about 8L fill for me when the warning lamp comes on and from the tracking I’ve done so far I only get approx 1,500 miles until the warning comes back on and another approx 8L

So, around 200 miles per litre for me monitored over last 24 litres of Ad Blue. All UK driving mostly Motorway / Dual and some A Roads.

Interesting you should say that, every single gas station we have used on our Spanish Raid had an AdBlue pump, and most also have Autogas pumps too.

I don’t doubt that you are quoting what the dealer told you.

It just seems incredible that you are getting between 8 and 10 times the distance compared to all the other posters on the thread.

Hang onto that engine !!!😉

These vans are using a hellover lot of Adblue arnt they!
Just traded our BMW X1 2.0Ltr 187Bhp, 4x4 Diesel had it over 5 years, only 23K miles, didnt top up the Adblue tank once during time of ownership, no lights to indicate it needed topped up either.
1Ltr per 250 miles seems very high to me, anyone been given a reason why yet?
LES
I agree with you. Some of the figures quoted seem like an extraordinary amount of consumption. My Renault Artic truck is 500 BHP. I'm always loaded to about 42500kg and if I go from Aylesbury to Leeds and back I doubt I put in 5 litres of Pigs Piss...

They do meet Euro 6 emissions standards under the narrow set test conditions that were specified. Turns out it was quite easy to stack the deck. So the emissions requirement didn't change for Euro 6 final, but the number of tests increased.

In reality, some Euro 6 final vehicles with adBlue probably are a little cleaner. And others were already clean enough.

But Euro 6, no matter what version, is the same as far as city restrictions go.

More like steer clear of those using 1 Litre to travel 150 miles...As said I'm going to not top up now until the add Adblue comes on or it breaks down and needs recovery by Fiat as its still under warranty.. I'll report back with the results.. 😁😊👍

I've kept record from new (sad bugger here!). I fill up 10L or so, when the warning light comes on (2.3 Ducato 160bhp auto). Carry 5L (fresh) with me, top-up once home.
I have overfilled twice, no ill-effects. I use the Wynns fluid additive. Over 3 years, 8000 miles, we found the adblue 'low warning' varies between about 1,900 miles from full, to 2,600 miles. No idea what variables caused the difference (av speeds; ambient temperatures etc).
So...between roughly 180 and 230 miles per litre of adblue for us. Bliddy annoying!

Just filled up today after last fill up August done 2276 miles works out 283 miles per litre. Local BP pump £1.507 per litre. Much easier using forecourt pump

I have not been closely checking the consumption of AdBlue, however, I have added 3 times to the tank since new. First time was 8 euros, second time was 9 and last time was 9 again I seem to remember so a total of 26 euros. A litre of the stuff is around 90 cents so that makes 28,88 litres in 6,444 km. The tank is at almost full right now so the math doesn't make too much sense as that would be 223 km/litre, I imagine I'll be getting around 320km a litre more or less. Does that make sense?
