Has anyone got a top suggestion for a clothes airer for pants , socks etc , for drying inside the van (or possibly outside ) but not a full blown washing line ?

I like the idea if those octopus type hangers, they do look ideal for socks, etc. When it comes to towels, we purchased some beach size micro fibre towels. They don't feel great when drying yourself (they feel like they want to stick to your skin) but they dry fantastically fast, much quicker than normal towels (and they weigh a fraction of a similar size ordinary towel. We hang them up from a small drying rail that Burstner have fitted to the top of the shower unit.

Have got microfibre towels but don’t really like the feel of them. I hang ordinary bath towels on trouser hanger clips and then hang from the upper locker door handles in the cab.

Does your van have a bathroom? My bathroom can be heated so I use it as an airing cupboard for damp towels etc. I might not use it on metered leccy though.

I lay my bath towel on the top of the dashboard right up to the window. If the sun is shining, dry in 20 minutes. Could do likewise with other items

All these ideas are fine when the sun is out. In winter you need to be more creative.

If you run your fridge or boiler on gas, rig up a hanger (something like this) to take advantage of the hot air that comes out of the vents.
Also try laying down a sheet on your mattress and lay out the stuff you want dried on it. Add another sheet and in the morning, your stuff will be warm and dry (the old army sleeping bag trick)

Not so sure about that. The exhaust fumes contain a lot of (hot) moisture.
