Driving to spain

We used Tonka's route last April for a 3 week trip, got to Cambrils midday on day 4, never bothered to go any further.

Without rushing on the way down or back we managed 10 days in Cambrils with a steady journey home, meandering through France.

Always take water if it is free, I don't mind paying but why bother if its free, and dump black & grey waste every day if possible, I never turn down the opportunity as you never know if you'll have a problem dumping for a few days.

Automated supermarket filling stations are usually cheapest for fuel, Super U's were cheapest in France in May, sometimes as much as 23 cents a litre in some areas.

Most of all take it steady and enjoy, treat it as a stroll, not a race, don't bust a gut trying to get somewhere, when you've had enough driving chuck it in for the day, there's always tomorrow.

Humid

And that's why we leave until October!!!

Agree.
We live in the northern Costa Blanca and we usually take the MH and go north in the high summer to more northern Europe. 35 degrees in the day and and 28 degrees at night is pretty draining. Air con and shade is a must if you are coming down here in high summer.

we play the game of how slow can we go. how long can we take to get anywhere .
why rush. no toll roads , avoid m,ways ,dual carriage ways , try to visit every village on route . look for quiet small roads and have fun . every village as a story.
could take years to drive through france and still not see it all.
then more years in spain. haaaaa bliss.

Thank you to all of you who have messaged us with lots of advice and ideas for our first trip to Spain. We have found this a big help.

We are booking the ferry tomorrow!!!!!!
Looking forward to the holiday now.

Linda

Your job, (amongst many I know) is to say to the 'Old Man' every morning as he starts up the engine,
"Drive on the Right"
I think it's a well known fact that married men do everything the wife tells them, Right???

Hi we are at Newhaven getting the ferry to Diepp. Can someone help us with the best place to fill up please? Linda

If you are happy to raid the family piggy bank the Portsmouth/Bilbao or Santander ferry would allow you to make the most of your three weeks - but it isn't cheap.
However, this route through France has been used by a few on here. I haven't used it myself as we generally start from Plymouth and use ferries from there. How long it takes you depends of course and how far you want to travel each day. There are lots of aires in France you can use for halts.

You just need to put in a swerve towards the end otherwise you will end up in Benidorm. :)

BUT

If you book early and join the BF Club. It will cost around the same if not less than via France.

Can someone tell me the best place for fuel in Diepp please ? Cheers linda

Don't worry ...........the best place to get fuel id the next station on your side of the road....................so what if it costs a little bit more .....................go easy on yourselves in the first few days.................driving on the right is enough to worry about. Then stsrt looking for the supermarket filling stations......Super U and Intermarche........................Auchan have a good one in Dieppe......BUT I wouldn't dream of confusing you by trying to describe where it is........................just take it easy and get it wherever.

Are you in the Aire at Dieppe ?

Just to mention that is will be hot on the southern Costa Blanca by late June.
By hot I mean HOT. Very HOT. Day and night. Be prepared.
stuck around 37º here at the moment in the shade. :sun::(:hot:
Just looked & it is still 32º now ,although far fresher(y)
