Driving Licence Renewal at 70

Hello.

I understand I will need to renew my driving licence when I reach 70, and will need to take a medical to retain the c category. What I'm unsure of, and hopefully some of you fellow funster can help me out whith is; what other categorises do you loose when you reach the age of 70.

Thanking you in anticipation. Derry
You dont lose anything if you pass your medical

Hi,

My reading of the DVLA site says I need to complete a D47P (or perhaps D47PU??). Have I misunderstood, or has the D47P been superceded?? My local main Post Office deny there is such a form as a D47P, and I can't find it for download or an online application for delivery by DVLA.

Are D2/D4 enough nowadays??

Many thanks

Supplementary question: Do I need to (is it worth) renewing D1 as well, please

If you get D2 and D4 filled in and your c1 renewed you will also get D1 C1e D1e etc renewed too.

Many thanks for getting back so quickly - do you know the answer to my D47P question as well, please???

I got this email the other day, don't know how relevant it is but it references making it easier for healthcare professionals regarding DVLA medical stuff.

Just found this on an old thread : https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/c1-renewal-forms-confusion.230028/#post-4172647

I spoke to someone at DVLA in May this year regarding using form d47p (I've never heard of d47pu) I was told then that d47p was for use when renewing a vocational C1, ie a licence obtained by passing a specific driving test, hgv, psv etc and it could NOT be used for renewing/retaining an acquired C1 ie one that had been acquired by grandfather rights by passing a driving test before 19

Can I rely on that as a definitive answer, please??

Hi all,
possibly mentioned above but a repeat is worthwhile.
At the age of 70 you loose your license ( completely ) not just C1 rights.
C1 is for anything over 3.5t, Hence the argument to de-rate to 3.5t.
However having de-rated your van to 3.5t, you will have still lost your license.
However an online application can thereby be completed to apply for a license re-newel.
This is without the need for a medical and is a simpler route to market.

Travel well and travel safely.

My OH's took a year. Best advice, photocopy everything you send and use recorded delivery to prove it gets there.
100% I sent a V5 of to dvla, like you I took a photo of the V5 and sent it recorded delivery, glad I did post office list it, cost me £25 for new one, which post office paid, but it was all the hassle I had and no one wanted to except responsibility, especially when you are told it takes up to 6 weeks.
