Driving licence in post with C1 on it

I must have been very lucky last year, I never had to send a medical because of Covid, turned 70 y/o , and got back licence pretty quick with every category intact. Phill D , just read your post, I will be using D4drivers for the first time next month, (dr on wheels for years) and will take extra care reading the forms.

I gave up trying to get my D4Drivers form corrected and went to my GP instead. I did get a refund from D4 and fortunately never submitted it.

If you were working for the DVLA would you feel happier signing off a report from a GP, who has full access to the medical history, or one from a medic who met the person for 15 minutes and based the report mostly on what the applicant said?

ARE YOU SITTING DOWN? Had medical Sunday 31st Jan. Posted forms to DVLA 1st Feb.
Today, the Driving Licence info site shows my licence valid from today.
Luckily no medical problems so straightforward renewal of my coveted C1 entitlement.
Well done DVLA

I must have got lucky

I can only assume you work weekends at the DVLA,
or are royalty  ✈️

I must have got lucky
So did I
Feb 24th Eye test, optician filled in part of D4 form.
Feb 25th D4Drivers filled in rest of D4 form
Feb 26th Photo booth at Asda, sent D2 & D4 forms with photo and postal order to Swansea recorded delivery.
Mar 30th Licence received in post, C1 etc retained as requested.
I really hate saying this, but thank you DVLA.

Another negative experience here.

C1 required, medical form etc sent in last month (three weeks). Nothing.

Out of interest, I did an online enquiry some time ago and was told to write in, quote the reference and include my licence. Which I did. I managed to speak with someone a few weeks later. No sign of any correspondence, my licence and even the reference number wasn't recognised.

I have been writing to the DVLA since November 2020 about this and not had a reply to any letters.

Centralising the service hasn't been great for the 'customer', so far.

Can i ask
Do you only need a medical if you want to keep c1?
or is the medical needed cos your 70? Thanks

C1 was omitted from my licence but I needed a medical as I am over 45yo. I think that is the cut off age for first applying and needing a medical. And that should be it until 70.

I think you need the medical when you reach 70 and when renewing your licence there after. Don't quote me.
