Driving glasses

Sorry, didn’t make myself clear. You can get implanted varifocal lenses during cataract surgery. Pound to a pinch it’ll be more than £45😄
Well, get yourself some cheap glasses and I'll have a play with my Mum's crafting scalpels ... could save you a bit of dosh!

Interesting. Would I be correct in thinking that the orientation of such implants may change and require further corrective surgery? Or is there some other possible complication?

About 20 years ago I was sailing out of Sydney Harbour with an Australian friend on his small sailboat. He had recently had his cataracts treated and had gone for multifocal lens implants, which he understood at the time to be a newly available option. He described these (if I remember correctly) as lenses with alternate concentric circles for close and distance vision. He had been warned that if he did not adapt to them they would need to removed and replaced with more conventional implants. He was very enthusiastic about how successful they had proved to be for him. Such lens implants were never mentioned as an option for me when I had my cataracts treated last November.
The orientation doesn't matter as you look through the same bit of the implant all the time they don't move as you look down. That's what I was explaining with varifocal specs you look through a clear distance focus for distance and a clear near focus for near as you're looking through the lower bit of the lens. As implants don't move you're looking through a clear distance part of the implant for distance but also an out of focus near powered bit. For near it's a similar situation you're looking through a bit that's clear to read but also a bit that's a distance focus so produces a blurry image it's the same with multifocal contact lenses.
Some people get used to this and are happy whether that's because their brains adapt or they just get used to not seeing clearly isn't clear!
What id definitely be very cautious of is clinics offering cataract operations to people who on a clinical point of view don't need them just to remove the need for specs. A lot get a really good result a few are unhappy a very few really regret the day they had it done as I said before twist or stick!

Went and saw a consultant last thursday for a follow up consultation and had cataract surgery on Monday.(Late cancellation)
I wasn’t expecting miracles but really impressed with the difference it’s made. NHS patient at a private surgery.
Happy bunny.
