Driving and Gas

I am camped at bonterra at benicassim. They would not supply me with a Spanish gas bottle without them copying my passport and sending it to the gas suppliers, who would bring a new bottle when they came to the campsite. Bearing in mind, they have full bottles here to swap over for used one. By the time the certificate had been issued, I had gone to Castellon and filled up my refillable ones.

Hi Sue,

At least we don't have to go through the hoop of having our habiticion, (ie caravan or motorhome) checked anymore.
It's just the time factor of them sending off a copy of the passport and getting the result back. I seem to remember that it took about a week. That's no good of course if you've run out and haven't got Gaslow or similar.
The 'get out' if you run out while waiting is to hire a Repsol 6kgs butane from a garage and, when it runs out, take it back for the deposit you paid on the bottle. I did this on my last trip. And remember, it's the same Reg. or adaptor for ALL the bottles so at least you don't have to spend further amounts on variations.

Well I went to the Cepsa petrol station at Campo Amor just south of Torrevieja and explained to the guy there that I had an empty Butane gas bottle and I needed a new Propane bottle, " No problem" He promptly took one and gave me the other. I then said I could really do with renewing the empty Butane one and buying the propane one without a bottle to exchange. "No problem" Have you got an NIE ?" "Yes" Says I "But how much is this going to cost?" "Just the price of the bottle of gas but you will need to sign a new contract which is free" Never signed a piece of paper so fast in my life!! 15 minutes, back on the road, with one new Butane and one new Propane bottle!! Result!! Many thanks to all of you for your help and advice.
