Seasons greetings

I have an issue with the automatic step on our Hymers drivers door. It's not really tied to a model as a step is a step. I open the door and the step pops out. Then, but not always the mechanism starts whirring as if the step was retracting and then popping out. It will do this 3 or 4 times then stop. Sometimes the sa,e again when the door is closed. Again sometimes the step will not retract. Open the door then close it and presto it retracts. On the odd occasion I have to lift the end of the step up with my walking stick before it will retract.

Any ideas?

The cogs, shafts and associated splines are all made of plastic and (in theory) don't require lubrication. The mainshaft on mine sheared (B678DL). Replacements were unavailable at the time (it was during the pandemic). I had to make a replacement in brass. Best to take it apart and check for any worn parts. They are very simple in operation. Good luck.(y)

Recently had to repair mine after intermittent faults.
Mine was a gear insert made of plastic was failing and not meshing properly.

I had a similar problem on my last Hymer but it wasn't a broken gear like Phil's or Graham's.
The arms are only held in place to the gear wheels with a self tapper . As the van was only a few months old. I made the mistake of taking it to a dealer, after they repaired it, it only lasted a month.
One of the screws had popped out so only one arm was operating. Replaced both screws with longer ones the next size up, never had any more trouble with that part but it still juddered.
Stupid dealer had greased the side rails with white grease, you would think a dealer would know better than to use white grease on plastic. I degreased the runners and greased with normal grease, it gave any more trouble.
