A quick moan. I have just been in a 2 mile queue of traffic in my motorhome behind the driver of a Concorde A Class over the course of 12 miles on the A26 in Sussex. Despite opportunities to pull over the driver continued on their journey driving at 35mph in 50 and 60 zones and braking on bends at 20mph that I normally do at 50 mph in the MH. They then entered a 30mph and continued at 35 mph before slowing slightly and I then pulled off. The single decker bus behind me in the queue even stopped and picked up a fare before catching me back up! Over significant parts of that 12 miles the speeds were under what a tractor would do.

I just don't think it's fair to other drivers to drive inconsiderately in this way.

Sorry about that but the wife was on the loo after a bad curry and the kids were out of control and swinging on the doors so I had to take it steady. We're home now anyway.

Opportunities to pull over are not that numerous in the UK especially if a queue of traffic behind, and a bus, so bus stops are a no go. The weather today has also meant I would not expect you to be able to take bends at your normal 50 mph.

Dare I ask the gender of the driver ?
As stated, it may be the driver was unfamiliar with the vehicle and taking it cautiously.
Inconsiderate driving for sure and very annoying, but not a whole lot you can do about it.
All you can do is chill and enjoy the scenery

It was lay-bys that were passed! If you look in your review view mirror and see a very long line of traffic behind you and nothing in front of you, then clearly you are doing something differently to everybody else on the road.

Never saw the driver, but in my past working life I know that both (all 57?) genders have terrible drivers.

That most certainly does not relieve the driver of their requirement to drive considerately.
Agreed, but everyone has a first time and in view of the lousy weather was probably nervous and feeling like he was going at speed and not taking his eyes off the road to look at the speedo. He may have just hired it.

I think the age of the driver will be more relevant than the gender.

Have you ever driven a large A class like a Concorde? It's quite a lot different to driving a motorhome the size of an ambulance, obviously I wasn't there so don't know where he could have pulled over but if he was new to the motorhome i'm not surprised he was driving cautiously, it costs a lot of money to fix them if you hit anything.

Hi.
" Dorothy A. " Had to leave the lorry at the Farm/garage,Mrs Dorothy A. said. " Hop in th HiLux i will run you home " Think peak district narrow lanes " On the way home, couple/three miles,i was wondering if i would get out alive, drifting the bends, flat out,so came up with a cunning plan. " You can drop me off here if you like,i can cut across the fields and be home ." Are you sure she asked and i said yes.... Relieved ? NOT HALF.next day picked up the wagon at the farm and one of the lads said. " How was the ride ?" and laughed......... She would have been Winner of any Off road car races anywhere..... White knuckle ride....TIMES TWO.
As you say Gender ment nothing to Mrs A.'s driving

It's a bus chassis is it not and the bus behind caught it :whistle2: and a double decker is a lot bigger

Oh look back Petunia they are all waving at us isn't motorhomes fun 😁
Also if a phgv restriction 40mph is it not? Or has that changed🤔

The A26 is quite a good road fairly easy to maintain 50 on most of it, car drivers still get peed off because they want to do 60 & don't know you are limited to 50.

That happens to me quite often when I’m driving at the speed limit - should I pull over then?

The bus driver is a professional, presumably driving the same routes regularly in a vehicle he didn't buy himself, there is a difference.
I remember a piece of advice given to a chelsea tractor driver when she was blocking all the road. ' if you can't drive it don't by it'

Gosh that's a memory

There are no.lower speed limits I think its just the speed of life these days I passed an older driver today in an old pvc , yes older than mine
He did the same held up all the people who were on a timetable but he was having a lovely time.
I passed him when he was doing 40mph on the motorway he passed me when I was waiting at the traffic lights after I left the motorway.
In the scheme of things we arrived at destination at the same time

Does an Army lorry count? Yes I have. My first ever driving lesson was in one. A poor analogy. If you cannot drive it, don't. This van is 15 years old and has done roughly the same mileage every year according to the MOT history. My guess is the same owner. They drove past 3 of these (at 35mph- this is a 60mph :

That's plan daft, but there are rules about slow driving:

Rule 169. Do not hold up a long queue of traffic, especially if you are driving a large or slow-moving vehicle. Check your mirrors frequently, and if necessary, pull in where it is safe and let traffic pass

With legislation to follow up:

Careless or Inconsiderate Driving (Road Traffic Act 1988 section 3)

At the lower end of the spectrum of bad driving is careless or inconsiderate driving, a traffic offence that comes before the magistrates courts relatively frequently.
There is no requirement for the driving to be both careless and inconsiderate, so in fact there are two offences. These are driving without due care and attention (commonly known as careless driving) and driving without reasonable consideration for other road users (inconsiderate driving). In both cases the police must serve a notice of intended prosecution within 14 days of the incident occurring.
They may do this orally at the scene or in writing, by post. It is now possible for the police to offer a fixed penalty which, if accepted, would prevent the matter going to the court. If no such offer is made or if it is not accepted, the case will proceed by summons in the magistrates’ court.
What does careless driving actually mean? It is driving that “falls below what would be expected of a competent and careful driver”. In determining guilt, the magistrates may consider not only the circumstance which a competent and careful driver would be aware, but also the particular circumstances known to the defendant.
In practice, the question in the great majority of cases is simply whether the driver fell below the standard of the competent and careful driver. Because it does not need to fall far below, simply below, or need to be deliberate, careless driving is one of the most common traffic offences. Even learner drivers may be prosecuted for falling short of the standard.

That looks like the Uckfield bypass heading North towards Crowborough. Where did it turn off the A26?

Really sorry folks but didn't get an opportunity to pass that KIA, they even did 35 in the 30 zones ☹️

Driving at 30mph for 12 miles would take 24 minutes
Driving at 50mph would take 14.4 minutes

An increase in journey time of 9.6 minutes ....

Logging on to Fun and writing all the responses the OP has made might have taken them longer ......

I understand and have often shared your frustration but i assume everyone got to where they were going safely .....

Spending a bit of our lives in the slow lane isn't always a bad thing.

That's SB bud, off of the A26, down the A22 and then back on the A26 to Lewes.
