Drive through rouen help?

I set the sat nav for Pont d Arch . It takes you off before the low bridge and down the D6014 with seine on your right

Yep that's what we do, did it on Sunday.
We have been going through for 40 years and of all the routes it is by far the easiest about a a km on normal roads the rest is all dual carriageway or Autoroute.

This is what we do. A29 then A151.

Same route as AndyLandy no issues

Hi we are driving from calis to spain first stop le mans so through rouen but now panicing as seen there is a very low tunnel which we need to avoid. We are mh 2.75m high does anyone know the height limit. Thanks
In 15 years of going through Roen , using the sat nav ISH and after a few trips , familiarity , keeping left , always confident of getting through , may have been a couple of times , when I made mistakes , once with a trailer on the back, then I had to really rely on the sat nav to get me through , and if there wasn't any diversions/roadworks it got me where I wanted to be , on the other side of the river , I usually avoid cities where I can ,
sorry I can't be more helpfull , I've not driven abroad since 2019/

Just checked Google maps, this is one of the routes they offer, good call. Many suggested same route when we can back up last June, but we decide to clear Rouen altogether by heading west towards Yevtot, I think and redoing the motorway north of Rouen. In terms of time it was the same.

Reading the GreenZones Map, Suggy, it looks to me that for heavy older engines the route you suggest ( which we’ve used before) is now In The Zone

We did this route about 5 weeks ago. We approached Rouen on the dual carriageway N28 I think it is. For a good distance before, there was frequent warnings of tunnel works and nothing over 3.5 tonne. Bring mavericks at 3650 we went for it anyway. Absolutely no issues getting through the tunnel. Can’t remember exactly what happens next but you follow the river/railway through an industrial area and you’re on your way. I think it’s the same route as suavecarve suggests. We’ve transited both ways through Rouen a good few times and never come across the low tunnel.

Edit: sat nav said we were travelling through an environmental area.
We do this route also no problems I think the secret is if you find yourself approaching a tunnel go to the right of it that should bring you out the other end of the tunn
Been there done that!. 4 years ago I followed the satnav instruction "turn left and go through the tunnel". I had to reverse 150 metres before I could get out again! Nightmare. If you follow your satnav, just ignore the tunnel instruction and continue straight on. It appears these tunnels are just a by-pass for some traffic lights and you will carry on the same route anyway, just going through traffic lights instead - that's all.
Thats correct they are just by-pass stay to the right of any tunnel and you will be fine Also take no notice of the impatient french drivers sounding there car horns :cool:

The height limit is 2.6mtrs.
The best advice is to avoid Rouen completely.
We went round it on motorway about five years ago after nearly going down the dreaded tunnel road on the way down.

Thanks all i like the idea of just putting yveot or pont d'larche in sat nav and avoiding all together, hopefully our route from then on will be stress free planing going to le mans aire, then camping larouletta, then zaragoa aire and finally benicassim 😊

That’s what we did, removes the stress altogether!

Are you talking about the E402 tunnel? if so, nothing to worry about, 30 ton lorries drive though that.

Where are the Cert Air corridors though Rouen?

Always RV'd through Rouen using N28 (through tunnel above town)
which becomes D42 crossing Seine onto D18E - as shown on maps
posted earlier.
The tunnel is undergoing repairs and has flow restrictions, hence no HGV,
but there is plenty of headroom.
Few weeks ago travelled both ways by car and saw the 'Poids Lourds'
restrictions posted well in advance of Rouen, so if worried follow them.
Map of 'Déviation' from French website below.
Otherwise as said, ignore the single lane car tunnel(s).

We usually went via Yvetot when doing the Hull/Zeebruge crossing - partly to avoid Rouen and partly to go to the big Leclerc supermarket to stock up. Our aim is for a stress free drive although when doing the Rouen route we never had a real problem - anticipating the problem with the low tunnel was the problem

That’s our thinking. There’s a range of easy access supermarkets, a pleasant drive, and if there’s time, an excellent aire at St Malleraye sur Seine

Happened to us, on our way back from Spain, this year :oops2: Brain said NO, SWMBO said YES:worried:
Had to reverse back for about 150m, so did the car & white van man (wvm) behind us....as Police van emerged from tunnel on the opposite side of the road :whatthe:
Managed to get back on to the main road but wvm got impatient, drove through gap into oncoming traffic, then back over the central reservation & ripped his exhaust off :fubar: Another 15 seconds & I was clear but wvm must've been in a hurry.

How do you know where it's going?....
35 years ago I took my ex wife's family to a funeral in a town I didn't know, nobody in the car knew where the cemetery was, but then I saw a guy leaving the car park I'd seen in the church

Result, followed him , right on to the drive of his house, by the time we got to the cemetary they were filling the hole in with a digger

Not really the final farewell they were looking for

I've driven through rouen twice and hate the place...In June we went straight across towards yvetot...down to bourg achard to pick up the A28 to Le mans...it a bit further and longer but the stress factor is zero...

The simplest way used to be described as the cow roundabout - but the cows have now been removed after the yellow vests damaged them !!!

Don't turn off the main dual carriageway from Abbeyville, you will come to a large dual tunnel that is around 4m ++ - lots of trucks go through it so there are no issues.

Stay in the right hand lane as you go through the tunnel and DO NOT change lanes once you get through. The road becomes 3 and even 4 lanes for short stretches but just stay in the lane you're in. That lane eventually filters off to the right, taking you where you want to be. Just follow that road which now becomes a dual carriageway with a couple of garages for fuel, past the railway tracks and industrial area. Just keep going through a few sets of traffic lights and across the 'cow' roundabout (you will see a BnM store to your left!!) - just follow the signs for Caen/Le Mans.

If you follow the signs for Paris for one junction, it takes you to a large shopping centre where fuel is a lot cheaper and there's a couple of fast food oultlets but more importantly it's an easy place to take a break. It's only one junction out of your way but it's worth it for cheaper fuel.

When you come back just follow the signs for Calais and it will take you along the same route and will avoid the low tunnels.

I suggest you take a look at Google maps or a road atlas prior to travelling - it's not the nightmare some people describe it as!
Perfectly explained. Thats the route we always use. Never had a problem, apart from once when I fancied a Maccy D (which is along the stretch where you have the rail tracks on your right) Had a nightmare getting out of the car park.

Still need a Criti Air sticked if the zone is in force.
Yes you are now supposed to, last year and year before without one, parked in town centers and some camp sites in the center of towns too, it would have been different if I was a Euro 5.

We did exactly the same , had a bit of a panic as we are 3850 the misses fretting didn’t seem any other way so just went for it . It is single lane road works through the tunnel
