Dorset Fun Rally General Info

DORSET RALLY, GENERAL INFO (PART 1)
Rally starts Monday 16<sup>th</sup>, arrive any time after 9am the address is contained in this link:

The Rally is divided into 2 adjacent fields, Electric and non electric, unless you have specified EHU already you need to go to the non electric field, these will be clearly signposted from the site entrance. I’ve just spoken to the Campsite Manager & he is happy with the conditions at the moment but is praying we don’t have too much more rain, he does have a B plan if the rally field turns out to be too soft.
We will be having a wine, cheese & crackers get together on Monday evening, when we can give you more info regards planned events. Please bring along your favourite tipple & some nibbles although we will be providing a welcome glass of wine and cheese & crackers.
Because the Rally is over 10 days we think it’s best not to preplan too many events but rather go with the weather and you are welcome to take part in as much or little as you wish, the aim is to have Fun whatever you wish to do.
If you have bikes we plan to go for a gentle ride on the back roads to Wareham and have lunch by the river and also a couple of walks (to Pubs if that helps!!)
We hope to have a music / general Knowledge Quiz night & BBQ plus some last minute forays to the local Pubs in Corfe.
If anyone has ideas for a social get together these would be welcomed.
The Saturday Evening do is fixed however & will begin at the Marquee by Norden Farm’s Restaurant at 6pm, food being served at 6.30. the Restaurant has requested that Music ends at 10 O’Clock due to people staying in the adjacent B&B.
Funster,Elvis1709 AKA Steve is very kindly putting on a show for us with a combo of funnily enough Elvis and Buddy Holly, he is doing this out of the goodness of his heart all he asks is that we consider donating to his nominated Cancer Charity at the end of the evening.
I will need to know accurate figures for the Meal by Tuesday 18<sup>th</sup> so if you haven’t already booked & want to come please let me know before then. The Restaurant are putting on a Bar with local Ales, Cider and Wines so if you just want to come for a drink that’s fine. I will confirm meal price but its under £10 per head.:thumb:
It is £11 per night plus £2 if on electric. Please don’t pay at the Camp Office, Lin & Myself will collect on the Non Electric Field and Pat & Trish will do likewise on the Electric field, the four of us are acting as Stewards throughout and as none of us have done it before don’t be surprised if it’s a total cock up but should be a laugh!!

If none of the Stewards are around on arrival please add your names including your Fun name and Van Reg to a book which will be left in Jez and Lins Van awning and find yourself a Pitch. We will come and find you on our return.

I am really sorry but we are going to have to pull out of the much anticipated Dorset holiday

.

It's not been confirmed yet but it is likely to be that week when we have to move out of the house and get our stuff into storage. Rather then drop out at the very last minute, I would rather do it now so you know how many to expect.

We'll be staying for the whole of the Meet (10 nights), so are we right to say that costs will be £130 in total, without the booked meals ??? :Smile:

I am pretty sure that will be okay especially as you are there for the duration.I know all the EHU's are allocated but that's working on the assumption that all those wanting EHU will be there at the same time & that won't happen so I will say yes although there may be instances when we have to share if that's okay. Solo traveller dilemma

I am trying to decide whether to go to the Stratford show or the Dorset Fun meet. Although in ways I favour Dorset, I am put off by the fact it appears it would be considerably more expensive. As I understand it Dorset meet is a flat rate of £11 per unit per night, (without EHU) correct? Although for the average motorhome with the standard two occupants that is a good rate, and considerably less than the Norden Farm general tariff, I travel alone in a small van so it appears that by joining the Motorhome Fun rally there I will be paying over the odds. Please understand that I want to be with the Funsters so booking independently and being pitched seperately is not the answer here.

Having until recently been a caravanner I am well familiar with often having to pay the same for a single occupancy caravan as for one occupied by two people. It never seemed quite fair being as I never used both shower blocks but I understand that nevertheless I occupied a complete pitch. Now I am one person in a small campervan (under 5m in length) on an open field I will clearly be taking up less space than your average motorhome. Furthermore, it seems that by attending the rally I will have to pay more than a regular visitor, so it feels as though I am expected to subsidise Funsters with large vans. It feels a bit like paying a single person's subsidy and as such doesn't bode well with me.

I wonder whether other solo travellers feel the same about this or whether they can enlighten me to view the matter differently? I wonder if others have felt excluded on the basis of cost? I am new to MotorhomeFun and am keen to attend as many meets as I can so far as my budget will stretch so this query won't be unique to the Dorset meet. I thank everyone who gives consideration to my point of view and trust responses will be of interest to others and not only to myself. :wub:

Actually I think you are making a valid point, and one I hadn't really considered. I will put this to the Campsite Manager and see if I can get consessions for the single traveller. I know of a couple who are coming alone (is that a contradiction in terms?) so it would help them as well if I can get a bit knocked off.

I have always thought of it as per unit per night not per person as some campsites do. I have a small MH and am on my own quite happy to pay price quoted for this event .

I've just checked Norden Farm's tariff and it states for this time period that a Small Campervan is £6 per night and 1 person over 16 years is £3 per night therefore £2 cheaper than the Rally tariff. Now if a solo traveller arrives with a large twin axle Van then I might struggle with a cheaper rate but fairs fair and the price for the Rally was negotiated as a good discount off the normal Site rates and that should apply to everybody.:thumb:So I will pursue this on behalf of the attending Solo's.

Having spoken to Norden Farm I have negotiated a discount for Solo Travellers in a Small Camper ie: VW or similar size of £6 per night. Hope that helps. However I will ensure that all solo's pay a fair price.

What we intend to do is issue a coloured ribbon on arrival that you attach to your Van (no money upfront) to indicate when you intend leaving. We will then do a evening wander round and collect the fees from those who's ribbon coincides with that day or if they want to stay longer give them a new coloured ribbon in line with their expected stay. This allows flexibility in the length of stay. Its a bit like staying on a Camping & caravan club holiday site, they pay on departure.
As for the meal I will collect against the list as and when I see you prior to Saturday, as some are arriving on Friday I've told the restaurant that I wouldn't be able to get the full amount to them any earlier than Friday night.
We will have a booking in system whereby we enter your details and put your Funster name on a sheet of A4 and attach it to the inside of your Van so we all know who's who.
