Door bell camera with mobile phone app

Interesting range of reviews online, a bit marmite, either it works and thay love it or it doesn’t work and so naturally they say don’t waste your money.

That's a big claim to make.
Suppose mickey mouse mask nicks it, even if there's some kind of data recorded in the ether it won't do any good.
If you report it stolen it will be replaced according to Ring. But only if you are paying for their recording system which keeps a record in the ether. It has a motion sensor that switches it on and records anybody coming towards your door whether they ring it or not.

I hadn't spotted that Peter .. thanks
I have just bought one on a black Friday deal and fitted it yesterday. Seems a good system so far. Like the idea of being able to answer the front door while away in the motorhome. Got mixed reviews but most of the complaints are probably because of weak wifi signal or slow Internet connection, and we are OK on both. Only time will tell if it is useful or not

Ring 2, owned by amazon I believe. I have one and it is good as my house is about 50 metres from the gates. Most delivery drivers push the bell wait 15 seconds and go. It takes 20 seconds to connect so you are shouting at them as they walk away high is okay except for the ones with their music in their headphones

I boulght the Pro version. Just about to start the installation. Will report back later.

Just ordered Ring2 plus chime bundle from Argos at £139. Will collect tomorrow and then see how it goes. Have watched this thread with interest and found it helpful, so thanks to all.

I was going to get one of those but they disable your existing bell. We have original 1950s bells including bakelite boxes. They still work well and we can hear them throughout the house. So decided to go for the Doorbell 2.

Hmmm what am I doing wrong. I never get any visitors to my door let alone ring a bell.
Your reputation proceeds you Sandra -they know you'll only ask them for charity donations lol

I also bought one but not fitted yet .. have you signed up to their recording scheme and do you know the cost please?
Basic is £25 a year for single Ring item, but no theft replacement. Plus plan is £80 a year and covers multiple items and theft replacement.

You get one month free when you first set it up.

Theft is included in the £25 a year plan

OK you've talked me into it . Just ordered one.

Theft protection is included regardless of whether you take out one of their subscriptions or not.

You just need to comply with their terms and conditions

Interesting. That is not what the explanation page you get to when enrolling for plans suggests. In that case I will be happy with the Basic plan

Edit, may not bother at all. The theft cover requires that you call the police and get the police to come out and look at it and get a report from them. OK for the USA, where police give out reports even for routine minor traffic accidents, but what are the chances of that happening in the UK????

Be aware of an anomaly i have noticed that may be the reasons for some bad press
If viewing "Live View" out of say idle curiosity it seams to take ages to load
however if your quick enough to answer a live alarm ie motion or visitor ringing
it is a lot quicker but I still can only catch the back of the posties head, he dont hang around,
fear not the video of him uploads to the system and you can then see him arriving and leaving
I fear instant live video capture and upload is not quite with us yet

Thought the issue with them now is that Google delivery men will not push them because of the time delay. They don't want an extra hour added to their day for nothing.

Ive been persuaded as well but gone for the Ring spotlight version, wired, and currently 2 for £279. I also decided that a lot of reported issues are due to poor WiFi. Looking at reviewers photos, this will allow me to set it to “see” drivers side of MH as well as our front door and car.
Second camera will view side door, shed etc but I might have to set up a WiFi extender for that.
Time will tell if I can stand the notifications! I don’t want one every time husband goes out to the shed!

Just do what my wife would do in those circumstances, lock him in the shed, cause undoubtedly it would be HIS fault your phone kept ringing !!

I can imagine the reply when you phone the police and say "someone has stolen my doorbell, can you send an officer around"

We also have the Ring doorbell, very good, waterproof, easy to install and use, can't be unclipped unless you remove the two tiny screws at the bottom of the unit. The only issue we have had is that we have had two fail, but on the plus side we have received free replacements very quickly with no problem.

The two screws are very, very small torx screws, so a thief would have to come fairly well equipped to remove the Ring unit from the wall. Chances of anyone a) wanting to nick one or b) having the right tool are in my opinion so infinitesimally remote that worrying about whether or not Ring would replace the unit if stolen is a waste of time.
