Just given the ‘Arkansas Chuggabug’ a thorough inside and out spring clean.
It’s 1st April peeps and if you haven’t done yours yet then you are slacking!!!😁

I think my old girl is looking good considering she is 33 years old this year.
I doubt there are many ‘Foster & Day’ bodies still on the road but this one is still pretty tip-top considering her aged status….
…..her only failing is the absence of a turbo on the 2.3 Mercedes diesel engine….and the fact that she is not fitted with power steering.
Apart from those two deficiencies
…super old thing she is…🙂
Any other F & D owners out there?

Paul

Just having a breather at the moment, half way through washing the van. Its only a PVC so not too daunting, although I've just discovered our pressure wash has a split in the pump, no doubt due to the frost. Oh well the roof will have to stay green😕

Nice you can have both turbo

And power steering fitted but is there any need she a handsome lady

and the fact that she is not fitted with power steering.
You can fit electric power steering either yourself for about 200 or companies do it for between 4-600 £'s

I did a bike race last weekend, so I camped over the night before, first night in the van this year. I did a quick run round the kit a couple of days before to make sure it was all still working. No issues thankfully.

My Van will be properly washed Good Friday ready for the off on the 13th April.. Top to Tow mobile van washer will do it as usual..I don't climb ladders now because you don't bounce well as you get older..BUSBY.

I cleaned ours out yesterday after our trip last weekend ready for our trip on the 10 th. Having it serviced on Wednesday means I don’t need to wash it because it is part of the service.
Something in the dark corners of memory think Foster and Day were based in Rochdale. There can’t be meany in as good a condition as yours. It may be slow and truck like to drive but that generation of Mercs were trusty and seem to go for ever.

F & D were indeed based in Rochdale….it says so on the body plate.
Kind words ‘bigwood’…thank you…..the gentleman who sold it me had if from new and clearly cherished it.
He gave me every MOT in its history so the 27000 on the clock at sale was provenly genuine. No ‘under-use’ issues to date.
He also assured me that it had not spent a single night out of doors except when in use. I believed him then and I do now.
After just two years of ownership I have had such fun out of it.
I bought it without seeing it off eBay would you believe…….COVID was in full swing….getting to view was just not an option at the time …..and the owner sounded so genuine that I just took a fingers-crossed punt and so glad that I did.
Probably the best 10K I will ever spend.🙂
She is slow….cruises at 50mph on the flat …but on long, inclines where I am forced to stop or slow right down….have ended up in 1st to get to the top of some hills…..she is a big, heavy old bucket and no mistake….😁…..does for me though….

Lovely old van!
A credit to you 😊👍

There are some foster & day Van's (80s vw based) that frequent the karmann owners forum
Nice Van's 👍

Well we cleaned ours, but by the time we got it down the farm track type road you wouldn't know. Inside done too but the floor is in need of another clean due to checking it when it was raining and the mat being at home oops.

Clean as a whistle in and out , just fresh water tank to fill swill and drain ready for Easter trip.

I had some help from a lovely funster yesterday who cleaned my roof and front end !
Did they not wipe your rear end as well!!!! (Falls about childishly giggling).

Had ours serviced Monday with intention of spring clean before returning to storage as not using till middle of month, but been on the Covid+ list since then.

If the weather dries up before we go I would like to have a go at the bumper and trim on ours. I have tried most restores but nothing seems to last a full season before it’s goes back to grey again.

Our old girl is similar, born in 1997, 20,000 miles on the clock, all past MOTs, service history etc. The couple who owned her before us went to the same, fully serviced site every time so she's in mint condition. We've had her a while now, and no issues at all.

Ours was squeaky clean until the bl99dy rain and wet roads ruined it.

In the next month, (if we ever get two consecutive days of good weather), it will receive a thorough wash and a good polish and wax.

We are off to France for 6 weeks in May and those pesky squashed French insects take a lot of removing if the m/h doesn’t have a good coating of wax. (It probably needs to be half an inch thick to protect from some of them based on past experience)!😎

Mine gets cleaned inside and out after every trip, can normally get going within 20 mins as just load up clothes and fill water tank😁😁
Off on Thursday so will probably load up Wednesday.

My 33 year old. Needs a clean. Any offers. And i am talking about my tin box. The wifes a little bit older.

Cleaned my motorhome this weekend for it's usual trip to Chester at Easter. Lots of green gunge from being sat in storage washed away.
After Chester, it will be a change of motorhome for Peterborough.
I've almost convinced my daughter she wants to have my old one.
