Currently traveling in France and my dog has developed an obsessive licking to a couple of areas to the point of creating bald patches in his fur.
Dr google suggests symptoms might be mange ? but I've no experience of this or how to treat it.
Does anyone have any knowledge or experience please ?
Heading towards Angers today so I'm hoping I can find a Pets at Home type place.
If necessary I'll find a vet on Monday.
Any tips appreciated šŸ‘

No experience of mange but a few years ago my dog started obsessively licking areas of her belly to the point of making them sore. Turns out there was no physical reason behind this but she was very stressed at the time as we were in our 'sailing phase' and she (and I) were not enjoying it at all. Once we were back to living on land the obsessive licking stopped. In the meantime she had to be trussed up in one of my old T-shirts to stop her making it worse.

Could your dog be stressed for any reason?

If itā€™s on her paws, legs or armpits watch out for grass seeds, they work their way into the skin. Good luck. Hope you get it sorted.

It's mostly a patch on his side that has become bald. But he's also having a go at the top of one rear leg and groin.

quite a few years now, and loving every minute..
possibly could be harvest mites, it is that time of year..

maybe a gentle medicated shampooing could help but guess a skin scrape and analsis under a microscope could be the only way of telling and being away from home and these things taking time if sent off, best you can do is keep him comfortable for now..

the other thing of course, not sure where you are and where you've been. if swimming in the sea, the salt could be an irritant..
and rivers maybe have pollution..

This works great for us when used for what you have described.Seems to work right away with one application. Just rub a small amount
on the affected area with the tip of your finger
Our Lakeland Terrier has spells of this over the summer months.

It could be 'hot spots' can occur frequently in summer for dogs, I don't have a link but easily looked up on the internet. Hope you find a vet as that's probably your best option, some skin care products off the shelf could make it worse. Good luck.
