Does this exist?

Park that idea and let’s have your next one. :xThumb:

This one's up for stealing by someone with more time than me, just remember me when you make your millions.

An adjustable thermostatic tea spoon with alarm. Make your tea, leave the spoon in and walk away. When the alarm goes off its the PDT (perfect drinking temperature)

Maybe the steam / log burner idea is scrap. Just been reading about radioisotope thermoelectric generators, I think that may be a better route. Where can I get hold of some plutonium?

What about these things, don't know how they work but they make their own electric just by getting hot, we have a Rayburn woodburner and use them , you just sit them on the top and they go round like hell.

If you want to generate power for near to no cost, is that not what Solar power is?

And if you really want to generate electrical power from flame/fire is that not a Thermoelectric generator, such as this Link Removed

Well I was just thinking about utilising lost energy, or maximising energy sources. Ive got loads of solar to go on the ruuf, 620watts of it. Just thought if your burning wood for heat, you just be able to utilise that heat for generating energy as well?

That is what sparked this thought train

Get a biolite, reverse engineer it, then upscale it to log burner size... Power a town with a tree :D

They don't produce electric, they are just sterling engines, It's a heat engine, it uses the expansion and contraction of gas in a sealed system to move a piston. heat from woodburner expands the gas and the fins on the back of it cool it down and send it back in an infinite loop.

???????A BIOLITE

Never heard of one of these. Surely that's exactly what I'm trying to achieve. But better/more sensible/realistic

Why has it got two wires to an electric motor then

Ha didn't realise you'd not know about them lol, I guess you don't do camping much :D
Like I said though, you'll have to upscale it as the one that bolts to the side of the rocket stove they sell only produces 3 watts :D
How they sell that thing I do not know..

I guess its for emergencys like... You forgot to pack a phone charger, But remembered to pack a stove and bolt on electricity generator. We've all been there

That would be good. Usually, if you go and do something else while it cools a bit, by the time you remember you were having a drink it’s too damned cold!

You could be onto a winner there. :xThumb:

The guys from an old job called me Heath Robinson ??? I had to google it then. Im still not sure whether to be insulted or grateful ?

Well they do they say there is a fine line between genius and madness :-)

Don't drag me into your hair brained schemes :p I accept no responsibility for any boiler explosions, sleepless nights caused by the noise, complaints from the missus about oil everywhere and constant smoke. :D

Yup and by the sounds of it, the boy has finally cracked and is madly dancing a jig all over the line while cackling manically.

And I speak from experience: many of my ideas have been described as "Dagenham East" (i.e. four stops beyond Barking).

What about some sort of fan in the flue that rotates from the rising heat? Anyway I'm going to fire up the old hammer drill toothbrush and go to bed

Has anyone fitted a windmill on their van to generate power to their leisure batteries?

They don't have the power to pull your foreskin back though so unlikely to power a motor / generator / alternator.
Something I've never had the inclination to measure :xsurprised:

Nope, but it's an easy enough thing to do, if you park your van in a windy area, or park it in a place where you could fit a flag pole t.
Wind turbines are available from any Yacht Chandler, the entire kit will leave you change from a grand.

Yes but it wouldn't work as you wanted.

With regard to energy and batteries I have been looking at wind generators on Youtube before maybe buying one. The traditional windmill types seen on boats and the Chinese candle types. They look good but the reviews generally of these is bad. They claim 400W but that is over 24HRS so works out at around 20W.
I had one on my sailboat but it had to be stopped at night as the hull (your m/h body) acted like a soundbox and the rumbling/grumbling noise inside the hull was awful.
I've seen a bicycle wheel with hub dynamo used. Vanes were fitted within the spokes to cause it to rotate in a wind but it probably produced only 6 volts.
