Do you use the loo sink ?

Agree with Roger. Plus I sometimes fill the kettle there if SWMBO is using the kitchen sink.

I wouldn't buy a MH without one.

Cheers Dave :thumb: while you are on can I pick your brains on GAS up to date regs - I still assume the gas locker has to be metal lined/drop vents :thumb:but can I run a leccy cable through and water pipes through it ?
terry

Gas regs don't actually apply to motorhomes other than as guidelines (unless the motorhome is to be hired out in the course of a business then they apply) but yes the gas locker should ideally be made out of stainless or galv steel sheet and no you should not run any other services through it, especially not electric. Gas reg should be bulkhead mounted and inside the locker with a manifold with shut off valves elsewhere.

If I went to see a van as a prospective purchaser, and no bathroom sink I would immediately think that the current owner is a dirty B...... - or if no previous owner, that the vendor expected dirty B ..'s to buy it.

I regard it as insanitary in this day and age not to have handwashing next to the loo, without operating door handles etc - and.

Handwashing should be completely separate from a food prep area.

Definitely have a sink Terry, I'm not sure of the exact layout you're doing and the space available, but not having one is an inconvenience.

We use our washroom sink as an extension to our kitchen as I need to have the glass lid down on our kitchen sink for worktop space, so the washroom sink is ideal for rinsing veg, filling pans/kettle etc.

One thing though is try to put one in that is big enough to ideally be able to get a proper wash in, not a 'soup bowl' sized one, if you can do one hat you can wash your hair over that would be ideal as not everyone wants a shower to be able to do so - we tend to get strip washes when away and wash hair over the kitchen sink as the washroom one is to small for that, or even in the washroom with the washing-up bowl on the toilet lid - if the sink was big enough though we'd use it as it has the shower attachment (combined sink tap/shower head). I note you have totally ruled out a folding one but that would give you the best of both worlds really - if you want a sink you can use it and it would be a good size, if not then it is tucked up out of the way. I wish ours had a tip-up one rather than the small fixed one.

Surely that's worse than washing your hands in the kitchen sink doing your eating stuff in the toilet room:Eeek:

I suppose it depends on how clean you keep your washroom sink! Ours gets well cleaned every day and so does the toilet (after the sink of course! ) with antibacterial kitchen wipes (like baby wipes). The sink is cleaned before any food etc goes near it, and veg that is rinsed is stuff that is being cooked so any possible 'contamination' would soon be eliminated anyway.:thumb:

How do you think of motorhoming - as your home on wheels (you'll miss a sink) or upmarket camping (you won't)? And when you come to sell, what type of person would you wish your van to appeal to? An upmarket build demands certain standards - a basic camping vehicle, not so much.

Hello Terry,
I cant remember the last time i used the toilet sink as a sink, usually has toilet roll, wet-ones, razor and what ever in.

Well there you are then, applies just the same to the kitchen sink

Well I think the sink has it :thumb: I initially intended to put a sink in - it was just after reading the loo thread and thinking we never used our loo sink except to keep make up bag and wet ones in that got me thinking  dangerous thing me thinking :BigGrin:Should have plenty of room in there for a decent sized sink so THANKS everyone for your opinions :thumb: even though we never used the sink Ann kept the van spotless and what she did/could not do she nagged me until I did it

Off the original topic a bit but from the previous post link, I always wash my hands in public toilets, but then think what a waste of time when you see others just walking out, so you have clean hands till you go to open the door where the person in front of you has not washed, so you've washed your own germs off but ended up with a handful of someone else's.
And another thing why do they open in so you can't just push them open without your hands you have to grab a handle to open them:Doh::Doh::Eeek:

Have not read through all the thread, but on personal choice I would not buy a van without a sink in the bathroom.

Many toilets now have a bin outside the door for tissue/paper towels etc. which are used specifically for opening the door and then disposing of them. Seen mainly in Hospitals and on Cruise ships to deal with the Norovirus but a good habit to get into. We have all seen the dirty bar ...strds who don't bother.
No way would I buy a m/home without a sink for the toilet

I always use a tissue to open the door and then throw the tissue away afterwards - a tip I was given by a hospital specialist and a solution that is on offer on cruise ships where there is always a box of tissues and disposal point at every public loo. (plus hand gel - but that only works for bacteria of course and it's norovirus and cough/cold viruses that usually go round cruise ships).

At work I stuck up the WHO hand-washing instructions in every loo and made sure there were nail brushes. I know I'm fussy but having been very seriously ill with infection / sepsis it's not something that I think should be taken lightly.

I was just about to post on similar lines. If you've ever done a food hygiene course you would be scrupulous about hand washing (in a separate washbasin).
Our MH was specially chosen for its end washroom so that everything was separate from the food prep area.

Incidentally I picked up the nori virus thingy on a cruise to the Canary Islands and completely missed Madeira!!

My Daughter & son inlaw were on a cruise where all food safety preparations were in force to stop cross contamination .
All that was we'll until the Son inlaw found the toilet cleaner washing a toilet brush in the hand basin I still don't know how he didn't take him by the scruff of the neck with him when he went to the desk to report it

It would put us off buying, so it's a MUST have a bathroom sink for us Terry :thumb:

I once caught a school cleaner using the same mop to wipe down the tables in the dining hall after he had used it for the loo floor. Contract cleaners .... he was probably paid peanuts and received no training.:Angry::Angry: Hygiene staff (aka cleaners) in hospitals have THE most important job of all.... don't ask me how I know

Without a sink in the little room[HI] where would you shave and brush your teeth?
[/HI]:Eek!:

JJ

Unlike you primitives in Portugal JJ
I don't need to shave my teeth:Rofl1::Rofl1:

Delicate question this one (and dont want to offend ) -but has to be asked----Gents when on sites use the toilet blocks to have a wash, but I cant imagine the ladies "stripping off " with others (ladies ) present like us blokes.Wash in the van for privacy?

I think Terry was asking about the sink in the MH...2 yrs ago almost LOL

When I wash my face I keep my pants on(y)

Good campsites have cubicals with a sink in them so folk can wash their bits in privacy. :)
