My new battery charger arrived today, connected it up all fine and was working lovely. But me being me I wasn’t happy with the crocodile clips/clamps that attached to the battery terminals. I removed them and crimped on ring connectors.
The wires though were both heat shrinked in black, the clamps had the colours.
I think you can see where this is going.
I did however determine which was positive and which was negative, added the red sleeve from the clamp, but from the walk from garage to van it fell off and I managed to put it on the wrong one. Wired it up and bang. Big flash. Blew the fuse on the battery charger.
After disconnecting everything and replacing the fuse unfortunately I’ve cooked it and get nothing. Tried the fuse in the plug too.
What other damage could I have done and will the batteries be ok? Is there an easy way to check?
I’m assuming my warranty won’t cover my stupidity either.
Please go gentle, I’m obviously feeling a bit sorry for myself. ?

Reminds me of a time at work when I walked into the garage to find one vehicle revving at the red line and connected to another trying to jump start it.

The chap connected the leads and scratched his head, I walked over and immediately noticed he had connected it wrong and reversed the polarity.

It started but had electrical gremlins for the rest of its life. Not a week went by when it wasn’t off the run for something electrical.

Happens to us all.
