It wasn't s smart alternator if you read it!
My comments were generic and not aimed at your specific set up. Other readers may well have smart alternators (my Adria does).
The OP asked whether he should use a B2B for a lithium installation. I (and others) have given good sound engineering reasons as to why a B2B is preferred.
You didnt answer my usage case questions.
I'll let the OP decide what they think is best for them.

It was a proper job worked fine and saved me 500.
I am pleased that you are happy with the job and that you saved £500.
I wouldn’t have been happy with it and would not advise anybody to follow your example as I don’t think it is safe even if it does appear (to you) to work.
But It’s a long thread and I may have missed it but it would be helpful for others if you could publish the name of your installer so others can either avoid them or specifically use them as they obviously have much greater knowledge than other specialists in the field.
I am extremely pleased with the performance of my Victron XS and feel the £250 plus a few pennies worth of extra cable well worth it. I had to buy a pack of fuses anyway. I get a solid 50Amp charge into my two lithium batteries through adequate cables, so if I have had a few days stationary with little charge they are charged when I get to my next stop.
