Dirty Water Dribblers

We've NEVER at anytime been told that its ok to dump grey waste on a pitch or in a hedge

You should never, ever, dump grey on a pitch that someone else might be using after you leave. As for the hedge for grey water, on our site that is where we insist it goes. The hedge or under one of the fruit trees. (y)

Spotting this at a popular park up in Chester, for 36 hours this guy just dribbled this yuk from under his van, a 10m water trail. Talk about give us all a bad name!

Bloody Orange Adria‘s owners don’t care, do you Jim ! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I have to admit that since changing the grey water tap on my van, it discharges straight on front of rear tyre, so roads get a Ecover clean as I drive along, leaves just a nice damp tyre track.

In the S of France last year, the manager of one site actually requested that we do this as he wanted the pitch watered and said it made no sense to throw away perfectly good waste water. Many of the pitches at his site (a municipal) were lovely and green. They certainly didn’t smell either.

Growing up in a drought-prone hot country, I remember the water company and Government advice was to save your bath and washing up water for irrigating your veg and fruit.

Edit: just found advice from the RHS which concurs with the above…

Hi Jim I’m out of your reach in Spain but the last time that I stopped at Jasmin I went to empty the waste into my Fiamma roll thing that I use but realised that it had been open for the two days. Sorry😇
😱

Many (most?) C&MC sites request you dump gray water in the hedges.

Many sites also specifically do not want you dumping gray water into their black water sewage systems, as it just means they have to pump them out more often, and there is far less 'solids' and too much water which messes up what the system was designed for, especially if the fairy liquid and shower soap kills off the bacteria.

Our Hymer is supplied with a 3m hose on a purpose built rack (like a vacuum cleaner hose) designed to fit over the end of the waste pipe so that gray water can be left to dribble into the hedge.

Hymer sell extra lengths if needed and places such as Brownhills sell waste pipe by the meter.

On one regular site we used to go to, they supplied random lengths of rain gutter pipe so you could rig up your own gray water drain into the hedge.

I think this is CAMC CLs, NOT CAMC sites. I think the wardens of CAMC sites would have a heart attack if you emptied grey water anywhere but in motorhome service point. They don’t even want you to dump grey water isn’t service points Caravanners use!
We have a hose from our grey waste outlet to the hedge, and tap left open, on virtually all CLs.

surely there is a CM club rule saying no dribbling on the site roads?

I confess one time i went to the service point to dump the water, when i turned the valve on, nothing came out. The drain hose had come out of the coupling on the grey tank so all the dirty water had gone onto the pitch. In my defence, I didn't know this at the time or I wouldn't have queued at the service point!

I was surprised that at least 4 vans had set off whilst dribbling and one (caravan?) had gone past the service point dribbling? The black waste drain was just in front of my van when the dashcam started so maybe it was black dribbles
You cant close a caravan drain point thet dribble for a minute with the movement

Thats why so many stink

Was at the C&MC site in Wythall at the weekend as we left, I always check the pitch as a just in case. Noticed that where most vans probably have their grey waste outlet, there was a health looking bit of greenery growing in the gravel - not us by the way!!

I don't mind dribbling do it all the time!

But with my vinyl waistcoat and trousers tiz easy to wipe off:drinks:

Stumbled on a small private site near Dortmund but they squeezed us on and were very hospitable in the bar. Next day, our waste pipe wouldn't quite reach the drain and we inadvertently sent a stream of the most foul smelling water down the approach road into the camp site. SORRY!

I'm new to C&MC only used 2 in the last month ....neither of these requested i dump grey waste on pitch or in hedge.
I dont normally frequent CL's so maybe they have different requirements.
I think the stink of many spanish sites using 'recycled' water for hedges etc is quite rank if i'm honest .....but if that suits them . ...
Its people that ASSUME its the done thing that infuriate me.

We have a pumped outlet on ours with a sprinkler assembly so we can water several empty pitches waiting for people to arrive so no slimy, smelly mess, pooled in one place👍🏻

It is just water.

Unless people are doing radioactive decontamination in their motorhomes
No it isn't. Washing up liquid containing surfactants and emulsifiers, fat from your bacon and sausages where you washed them up. Even milk is a hazardous waste if disposed of in or by a water course. There's a reason your house sink doesn't lead to the storm gullies but to the sewer for treatment.

...and then from the sewer into the sea untreated...

but as he could be mistaken for a night club bouncer

Excuse me... those gentlemen are referred to as "Door Staff" these days.

(In certain venues they used to be referred to as the local drug dealers.)

No bacon or sausage fat goes down my sink. No food waste whatsoever goes down my sink , and I use very little washing up liquid as a result .

Bit of shower gel and shampoo that's the worst of it. And as my tank is never full and emptied daily there's no build up in there either.

So if people are overly concerned what's in their grey waste simple answer is change your habits and you won't need to

For heavens sake! Ok not many tango van owners… so if you see me in tigger the van - it ain’t ME! Need to knock and let them know they have a leak! 😉

I don't have a problem with subtle dumping of water in hedges or at the side of the road. The roads are filthy from all manner of stuff anyway - oil, petrol, diesel, tyre rubber, wild animals etc etc. A bit of greasy soapy water will not make it any worse and will wash away the next time it rains.

Some people just think its water, like emptying a washing up bowl outside...🤷‍♂️
It's a hard lesson to teach

Basically is it just like emptying a washing up bowl - only maybe not quite as bad as it will be diluted with shower water.
I was going to ask for thoughts on this. This is the motorhome service point at a Caravan & Motorhome club site in Chester today. I had queued behind another van who was emptying their grey waste. The driver stood watching the water going into the drain until the flow started to reduce. He
then got in the van and drove off without closing the valve. Judging by the trails on the road he was not the only one to do this.

I tend to drive with the valve open. It reduces the chance of smells in the van. I do make sure its virtually empty first though - there will always be a little dribble once you initially move though. No worse than all the crap already on the roads though - Oil, petrol, Diesel, animal pee, lorry dirt etc etc.
When I wash the van with proprietary auto soap, I first pace a huge tarpaulin on the ground, drive onto it. Wash the van and carefully collect the soapy water for careful disposal down the sink so that it doesn’t get in the rainwater drain.

 ;)

When I drive I always suspend a nappy under my van to collect any dirt and then dispose of it safely at the local tip at the end of my journey:sneaky:

CL's maybe? Main sites all have specific gray water emptying drains.

I was perusing another thread & spotted this, sizing may be an issue for most on here but handy if unexpectedly you go to the TOPSHAM meet
