Digital driving license soon ?

I don't understand why people want to put their entire life into a smartphone. Lose it or have it stolen, you'd really be in the sh*t

You can put your documents into an email system folder in your smart phone. Then if the phone is nicked they bad boys have to get into your phone, but then also have to access a document which is held within the email system.

Wouldn't know, don't have a smartphone, I spend too much time as it is in FUN on my laptop ;)

I've managed perfectly well without one for 67 years although I've had a computer since my Sinclair ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64 ;)

Sounds a bit like my great grandfather talking about the new fangled telephones.

My great grandfather must have went on about new fangled steam engines before he died in 1892 ;)

If the move to digital is too happen (as everything you read in the DT is not true, I know is a shock statement), how will UK drivers fair in Europe where a physical licence must be carried and produced if required?

The idea is not compulsory, just on offer. Anyone can still retain their physical licence.

If one does not carry a physical licence in Europe one must be confident of remembering how to access the digital one through the multi-facet authentication process.!

Alongside the EU increase in 'B' licence to 4250kgs for ev vans + motorhomes of any fuel type, the directive also allows countries up to 2030 for introducing digital driving licences to include name, address, nie, all vehicle details + registrations, insurance & mot details, points, fines, bans, etc, etc, etc.
Also any ban in one eu state will apply in all other countries. The idea being that all states will be able to access driving licence details on line

The Spanish have the MiDGT app which contains your driving licence, ITV (MOT) date, permission to circulate and insurance details on it and also a notification area which tells you of any pending fines for offences. I still have my physical driving licence card but it is handy. They also have a couple of digital signature systems which are also useful though initially a bit of a pain to set up (though the renewal procedure was online and fairly simple). Spanish software isn't always reliable but when it's working it's fine.
Yes, I have the app, it also tells you how many points you have (here you start with 12 and lose them if you have infractions) and it is valid for the policeman that may have stopped you. I still carry the physical one albeit you no longer have to.
