Difference between 1 week and 4/5 week trips?

Book two things - euro tunnel, outward crossing of the channel (must be observed) - return crossing euro tunnel (can always be extended).

Just get over into mainland Europe and go where your fancy takes you. However there is lots of good advice above.

We normally plan for four or five weeks but have very little idea where we will be going.

Never booked a return in 23 years...BUSBY.
Have you ever had need of breakdown or medical insurance in any of those trips, if so did they ask for your return date?

Laundry? We take enough undies for the whole trip and bedding so we can change it, we're on holiday so do as few chores as possible! 😄
If you are doing frequent driving, a small bucket with a lid helps to keep laundry controlled. Put water and a bit of powder in the bucket with 1/3 full of laundry. Pop on the lid. After about an hour’s drive, empty the water and replay with fresh for the rinse cycle. Another hour of driving and your socks and smalls are done. Ok so they are wet but hang them up in the washroom overnight and there you have it.

Presumably this works more effectively on british roads, as the washing will be much more agitated. 🤣

Take a couple of hundred Euros in small-ish notes to smooth over any emergencies. Even the French will work over lunch or stay a bit later after normal closing time for a bit of cash in hand.
Take the spare set of MoHo keys, whoever is driving has the main set and the spares are with the other person at all times.

Another not so important benifit that we have found is things that only happen weekly, such as markets and things, if you only have a week and you miss it but find out after, that's it it's gone but if you are there for more weeks, if it's something you really want to do, you can do it next week. Used breakdown insurance a few times. Never asked for a return date. We prefer to book the return tunnel in France as it always seems a bit cheaper.

Minxsy knows what she is talking about. Take enough knickers to see you through including ones that are on their last legs ( excuse the pun) which you can wear for a fortnight or so and then chuck them out. Charity shops have tee shirts at next to nothing cost to dispose of responsibility after wear. Showering? When a full timer says ' we are completely self sufficient ' I follow their lead and have a shower now and again!😉

Good lord, no wonder the Germans and Dutch think the Brits are a dirty nation judging by some of the above comments. Buy decent travel clothing made from the right fabrics and you can handwash pants and have them dry by morning. Four pairs is plenty for clean and fresh every day.

Why on earth do you need to change the bedding weekly? You'll be telling me next that showering more than once a month is necessary! 😱

I shower every evening before bed. My theory is it keeps the bedding cleaner.

Breakdown and travel insurance are annual policies so no need to give any details of your travel at all.

Yup, I've got a watertight kayak barrel that I could use if I wanted to however I don't go near hubbies socks and pants even at home and certainly do NOT want them hanging around in the washroom even when washed.

A security guy told us that outside lights around your property is better than house alarms, but , combining both is a good idea to belt and brace
