Diesel price in France

So we're back in France for the first time since before the pandemic. We were interested to see how much diesel is here at the moment.

Somewhat to our surprise we found some on the autoroute (A1, Aire de Reasons Ouest) at Euro 2.089 per litre (circa £1.80), which was less than we've noticed elsewhere on our travels.

I'm sure if we'd gone hunting a bit harder, we'd have found cheaper. What are others paying currently?

You have 15 cents a litre discount to take off those prices

We filled up a couple of times whilst in Spain recently. I don't recall seeing anything about a discount:unsure:

We got a discount on petrol for our hire car in Spain, in May.

Sorry, this applies to France, but I do believe Spain are doing the same type of thing, it’s not deducted from the advertised price on station forecourts but is deducted when you pay, receipt will show this.

Bergues top up at 2.00 euros yesterday at the Leclerc. We did see 1.99 in Belgium on the opposite side of the road

Hungary have an interesting approach.
We just tried to get fuel before going into Slovenia because it seemed cheap (480huf = approx €1.20) only to be told that price is only for vehicles registered in Hungary 😳 Johnny Foreigner has to pay 824huf = €2.04) and can only have 20l. So as we’ve still got a range of 370 miles we didn’t bother.

That is both fascinating and informative - thanks!

Looks like a massive subsidy for the Hungarians.

Filled up in Luxembourg yesterday 1.84 Euros per litre. Yes 1.84!!!! Had been travelling up the Mosel in Germany and ignored a few garages offering fuel at 1.95 or thereabouts. Got to Trier and the price had risen to 2.09. Carried on further upstream, crossed the Mosel into Luxembourg and first garage witin 200m, 1.84. Result.

Did I hear fuel at ALL filling stations in Luxembourg is the same price?

Certainly reputed to be the cheapest in Western Europe I believe.

Well done for securing such a good price. (y)

On French motorways yesterday Total was E2-05 / E2-07. Other brands were more expensive, with Shell and BP being the most expensive at E2-24 or more.

Wish we could use E85 Ethanol in our car that needs Super duper

I have copied this passage from a French Conexions email article

Fuel supplier TotalEnergies has confirmed that it will offer a discount of 12 centimes per litre on fuel at its motorway petrol stations from July 1 to August 31.
The move is intended to help holidaymakers travelling long distances by motorway over the summer, with up to 17 million drivers set to benefit, TotalEnergies said.
The discount will apply to around 120 motorway stations, to all fuel, and without a limit on the amount.
The 12 centimes off will be added on top of the 18 centimes rebate already confirmed by the government.
The 18 centimes discount has been in force since April 1, and is set to last until at least the end of the summer.

We visited Spain for stock this afternoon and prices were 14 Cents higher than here in the SW of France.

Slightly off topic but useful to know if travelling at the moment.
I can't quote for other countries than Germany at present but what is quoted on the above website is tops even for autobahn prices. I would say 1.96€ is about average today (5/7/22) with 1.84€ being about the lowest. That's per litre for diesel.

Your information explains why we found diesel at a good price on the motorway - it was Total. 😊

And it was our luck to find it on 1 July - first day of the offer. 😉

Many thanks for posting! 👍

Is there any reason why we can’t fill up our vans at the lorry/ commercial pumps at the much lower price?

Think the pump nozzle is a lot wider and won’t fit in a standard tank filler

In the past I have used the lorry pump to fill one of my earlier vans, not sure about the present PVC. I do recall it flowed quickly out of the nozzle . Think it was England though.

€2.02/litre at E Leclerc in Rambouillet today.

We filled up a couple of times whilst in Spain recently. I don't recall seeing anything about a discount:unsure:
It should be on the receipt, they showed me the 'descuento' of 25c per litre.

Paid euro 2.019 per litre at Carrefour Epernay today. Just come up from Burgundy and saw 1.99 at some supermarket stations down there.

I know it's not France but for info, diesel price in Andorra is €1.768.

Also there's a very nice small campsite, Janramon, in Canillo GPS coordinates N42.569430, E1.605222. First time we have camped on green grass for 3 weeks

Just filled up at Auchan on the outskirts of Belfort today (Friday 8th July) 50l of diesel cost £83.79 according to the bank card account. That works out at £1.6758 per litre.
The displayed pump price was 1.959€ per litre so that is what we were charged.

That works out about right at €1.16 €1.959×50 = €97.95 ÷1.16 = £84.43 approx
Or £83.79 ×1.16 = €97.95 ÷ 50 = €1.943 per litre

Been running since spring,/May originally until end of June but now September ot later.
Price of diesel has come down here In Provence this morning. 196.8 euros p/l.
Fallen tl 1,85€ in Spain before discount.

Hasn't been cheaper than Spain since we'll before covid.

Yes in France they won't turn on the pump. They wouldn't allow you to use them years ago.

Fitted my mpv which had a straight inlet and using a lorry pump it would allow you to put in 100litre in not much over a minute.
Fits my current transit as well as I use one occasionally at my local garage in Spain.
