Diesel heating recommendations/fitting

I had a Planar fitted with a thermatic controller, no issues at all and cheaper than gas.

Personally, I would not touch anything Planar or Autoterm as they are Russian owned companies.

Here is a page from a company that previously supplier and installed Autoterm and Planar diesel heaters, and now refuses to do so.

Are these any good?, they fit on your driveway.
Thanks Mickey, I did have a scan through and they just don't seem to professional... could be wrong but the websites a shop window and there's is dusty if you get my drift
I can second PF Jones. The Stoke branch did a great install of an Eberspacher diesel heater in a previous motorhome back in 2020.
Thanks Henry, I think I'd seen your review that I then couldn't find.. could I ask what they fitted and how? Any pics if you have would be great. And of course if you don't mind, cost? PM me if easier .
Stoke is 20 min away from me so would be ideal.

Before I get hung drawn & quartered, I had this fitted locally 3 years ago before the war. Hind sight is a wonderful thing and at the time it was recommended by other members on the site as a cost effective reliable unit. We may have the same thoughts on China soon:unsure:

Paul, are you having diesal heater and hot water. Your gas would be minimal use when skiing.

No just a heater. I'm going back to ring PF Jones tomorrow in Stoke

Can I just ask is there any campervan that couldn’t accommodate a diesel heater? I ask because I have approached a company about supplying and fitting to my 2020 Nissan NV300 Leisuredrive and they say that their heater isn’t compatible.

More likely they would have to do a bit of work to make it fit. They aren’t complicated, just might need a lot of moving cupboards etc to fit it.

Mickey1 - that is the company I approached - see above. They wouldn’t fit to my particular vehicle so I’m on the lookout for another fitter. My mechanic says he will have a go although he hasn’t done one before!!

Where there's a will there's a way !!!

You can mount them underneath the van.

We're "exploring" the option of a diesel air heater as a backup for our Alde 3010 wet system. I've done a fair bit research and have discounted any of the Chinese brands. Think I'm settling on a Autoterm 4kw air system as looks good quality and has the option of a decent control panel and bolt on module for receiving text messages that you can switch on and off with the system which is a decent option in my book.

You're not bothered that it is Russian and supporting them then ?

I asked if they could fit underneath the van and they couldn’t, so I’m now looking at getting it done in st Ives .

Hi brakes, what van do you have?
88 or 79?
What I'm finding difficult on my 79 is actually getting a route to the back of the van?
Be interesting to see how you are proposing yours.

Interesting let us know what they get back with, I’m sure quite a few people would be interested.
There is a guy on our site that has had it done by them I’ll go and take a look when I see him again, from the video it looks like they have just added a hydronic heater in the heating circuit.

Hi Haganap, ours is an 88, my thinking was to initially maybe site the heater and route the pipes between the floors one outlet for lounge area and a split feed to the bathroom area pushing back to the bedroom. Need to look at space left as just installed a full Victron system with 5kva inverted and two 460ah batteries under the floor so need to do some head scratching I think.

I take it that you did not read post #33 of this thread then ?, ... and thanks for your sarky comment. (y)

You are absolutely correct, I did not read it as only offered my own opinion and research I've done on diesel heaters as a reply to the users post. The original brief was indeed designed for Russian military use and working in extreme conditions. Whomever the instal company you've quoted above are, they're perfectly entitled to post their opinions or withdraw a sale i don't have quams with that as we live in a democracy for which everyone is entitled to a view. However, you can not fault the quality in my opinion and far superior to Chinese heaters that sell by the bucket load and we could also write books on China's or German brands various military positions over the years.

Can you keep us informed if you decide to get one, I would be very interested! 👍

I'm having water tanks installed by AJC Conversions in Glossop. They have a very good reputation on the T6forum.

I'm sure they could do it, or you could wait til after Monday and I will ask them.

Just checking, do you have anything under the drivers and/or passenger seat?
