DFDS Ferry Prices 2022.

Once we are able to contemplate continental touring again (family issues prevent it at present) I will be weighing up the costs and benefits :)

Now Teesport is a free port I wonder if anyone will offer a SeaTruck type service for motorhomes from there? A quick look at a map shows RoRo facilities so maybe it would be worth an enquiry**. The SeaTruck crossing to Ireland (and the return) was brilliant and made the trip even more fun and interesting. Just watching the ships being loaded was fascinating. At the moment no passengers on SeaTruck due to covid though :(

** email sent to PD at Teesport to ask if they would consider it.

PD at Teesport have been very helpful and given me an email address for P&O Freight Ferries who operate the route from Teesport to Europort and Zeebrugge (also from Hull to the same places and Tilbury to Zeebrugge).

Good one Puddleduck! Please let us know of the outcome.

Last route should have been Tilbury to Zeebrugge - sorry!

I have corrected my previous post.

No complaints from me about DFDS prices; they have removed the 0800 booking number that you have to use to get the Over 60+ discount and replaced it with a premium rate of 13p per minute + own network costs. But you can book via email, if you're prepared to bounce emails back and forth. It required 7 or 8 messages to get our booking arranged this week

Steve
See if there's a suitable alternative phone number to try here:

What's all this about 60+ discount? Didn't see anything on the website.

They even do special offers and don't publicise them about 3 years ago I got a return for £79.
We found a February return crossing Dieppe to Newhaven for £75, so £60 after discount to complement next week's £94 net outward crossing from Newhaven. Had to ring DFDS this morning and cancel the trip because the ECU airbag fault won't be repaired in time, and no idea when the parts will become available. DFDS have issued us with a 12 months Credit Voucher.

I take it that was about 3 years ago as well.
Naw, 25/11/21 outward and around 13/2/22 inward, honest! But we do have only a wee m/home, so come under the 'Small M/Home' category of <4m H and <7m length, even allowing for the Bike Rack making the stem to stern length 6.88m, give or take 2cm for tape measure distortion from Bike Cover down to road surface [aka 'squinty measurin' in Scotland!]

I thought you meant £60 return, my £79 was a return.
Mine van is 7.5 always put it down as 7m

Recent booking was £82 for Motorhome and £229 for Commodore de luxe cabin. Can’t get better than that.
That is a great price.

I did get a great deal on the Hull-Rotterdam last year.

I think with the Overnight stay vouchers that we used for 4 nights in Switzerland (Saved £245). Our crossing came out under £380 return for 7.5 meter motorhome and double bed cabins.

We live over 400 miles from Dover and under 200 from Hull , it’s more to do with avoiding the drive south in the U.K. on. Friday night whereas with Hull crossing we’re parked up at 7pm and able to have a few beers.
We're about 75 miles north of you [south coast Ferry Ports are within a 490-510 miles drive], so we take a gentle 2 or 3 days pootle to Newhaven. We find it easier, and cheaper, to drive south in UK, on the 'right' side of the road, avoiding toll fees and the driving around Paris [Rouen is bad enough], before going 'foreign' from Dieppe :giggle:

Thanks, I have just looked at some 2022 prices. They are a lot lower in the winter. But so are P&O, the extra distance makes DFDS the same price as the lower P&O.

But that could change

A gentle 2 or 3 days is fine if you're retired.

For information:
The premium rate phone number for DFDS to ring for the 20% discount can be avoided by starting an on-line chat. Ask "How can I book" and they give you the phone number to ring. Question if it is a premium rate, and they offer to ring you back.
We booked Newhaven to Dieppe 14/5 23:00 and got it for £60.
We also booked Hook of Holland to Harwich 29/6 14:15 through CCC for £52.70.
This is for a 7,5m motorhome and 2 adults.
Now, where shall we go?

No cabin on the day ferry to hoek then ?

Do I need a cabin, am I missing something having never done this route before?

Newhaven to Dieppe route, as LennyHB says ,is only a touch over 4 hours. There are two 'quiet lounges' [Level 7 IIRC] on the floor above the main Passenger Seating areas, and there are rarely more than 4 or 5 people in them. Easy to get a comfortable 3 hours+ doze in the reclining seats on the overnight crossing, allowing for the Safety Announcements and the 1/2 hour before arrival 'Give your cabin keys back in now' Tannoys

I’ve got a car return booking with Eurotunnel on 29th Dec - £192 return. Was only £10 dearer than DFDS. Re entry changed to using the tunnel with Motorhome after 30+ years of using ferries with caravan then MH. Prices are now so similar I’d rather get there quicker and off-load quicker etc.

We have Hull to Rotterdam booked for June, £393 return for 2 adults in a standard cabin. It’s looking like the cheapest option compared with the price of fuel to drive that extra couple of hundred miles.
That is good. We never book return (more freedom) but have booked Ncle to Ijmuiden return with outside double bed cabin for July and august 22 for £644. Hull was no better when at the time we booked.
