I belong to a couple of online forums where there are subset special interest groups (SIG). I can't see the problem with them. If I'm interested I'll have a look and a comment if not I won't.
SIG's allow you to discuss other non MH stuff and build a "picture" of other members. I'd have several SIGs and encourage interested members to help manage/moderate them.
