Next sunday I am driving to Doncaster to have something fitted on the van, at SAP, I need to be there for first thing Monday morning but they want it for two days . I can stay overnight in the van but need to find something to do during the day, I have my little motorbike in the garage so I will be mobile within reason, hoping it isn’t pouring down.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to what or where to go for the spare time there. The van should be finished on Tuesday pm so I can drive back a bit to Dover probably stopping at Rutland for the night. It would be a bit soul destroying to wait in their little waiting area.

Second the air museum. You could probably overnight there if you ask.

What are you having fitted?

Hi.
Th .ere is an "Outlet Lakeside Village" centre, Doncaster or,off one of the junctions 3?? M18 Shops to browse/food CHECK

Get your spanner’s out and give them a hand

2 Days at SAP, full air by any chance or EP jacks or are you splashing out on both?

How far are you prepared to go on your bike? York is not too far away and you could take in the Rail Museum which is free. Or go on the train.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park is a good day out I don’t know whereabouts you’re going to but there are signs

Not sure if this might be too far for you, but the National Coal Museum near Wakefield is only 30 miles from Doncaster. The underground visit we thought really worthwhile (done it twice, lasts around 1½ hours) and is free, but you have to deposit £5 for the metal token to go down the pit which is refundable, but they encourage you to make this a donation to the Museum and to keep the token. If of any interest have a look at:

Whatever you do....
Make sure you park your bike in a busy place and lock it up well ;)
I’d leave your bike with them, get the bus into the town centre, then hop on a train to York.
I hate to say that my local town is a dump...
More to do in York imo:)

Catch the train to York. Reform Raikway museum. It’s free to get in and a good day out.

The train station is only a short walk away and the train only takes a few minutes to get into the centre of Doncaster. £1.70 return. We spent the day in Doncaster and had a really good seafood lunch at the Clam and Cork in the fish market.

Or you can get a train to York, Sheffield or Leeds from Doncaster Station

We were at SAP yesterday and like yourself wondered what the area had to offer so caught the train into Doncaster, anytime return ticket now £2.10. Had quite a pleasant day there. The Minster is worth a visit if your into churhes, and the town centre is OK, bit run down in places but what town centre isn't these days.
Mike will loan you his pool car if you ask and want to go further afield.

Suicide has much to recommend it in Doncaster.
Why is there always somebody wanting to slag off places!
I’m not from there, been several times and it’s no different to anywhere else, people just getting on with their lives. Some wealthy, most not. We thought the market was good and the people we spoke with friendly and helpful.
We are from Hull and that gets its fair share of slagging off by people who know little about it.

Wish we had markets as good on Teesside - and a Clas Ohlson please :)

Might see you on Monday, we are dropping ours off on Monday morning but probably a bit later than you.

Can’t comment on @hilldwellers post, and whilst I agree with @Hettie's Crew regards slagging places off, I live 10 miles away from Donny, and, for the benefit of @GWAYGWAY, there is no way that I would leave my scooter/e-bike/dog/granny unattended in the place. Too many posts on nosy book about bikes getting nicked in the town centre.....in broad daylight..
Great town for a night out though

A lot depends on what your interests are. There is an antiques and collector's fair at the racecourse over next weekend - Sun & Mon. If you are into fishing there are free stretches on the Rivers Don and Dearne. If you have transport you aren't too far from the Yorkshire Wolds and if you prefer shopping then there is the Yorkshire Outlet and Meadowhall to go at. The difference is in the prices. The Yorkshire Outlet is much cheaper, but Meadowhell is better for eating. For history lovers there are two castles nearby - Pontefract and Conisborough. Both have played important parts in British history.

Just remember your flat cap and whippet so as not to look out of place (y)

Not big, not clever and most definitely not Funster like.
Hi.
@hilldweller is from...
"Maccacccacccacccaccccacalesfield" Not far from Congoliatown and so has his own cross to bare. But he is a Funster. I have posted on here, and some i have thought were "Rib tickling" drew no response at all.Win some lose some.

I quite fancied a trip to York for the rail museum but the trains are not direct and hence probably awkward and dear aroundabout route. The little bike is maybe a bit vulnerable being a Honda 125 so maybe not use that at all. I could take a sleepin' potion and sleep through two days. Train into Doncaster for a wander I think, the Station is just down the road from SAP so easy to get there.
